Summary This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA to meet Critical Hiring Needs for recruitment and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service About the Position: This is a PERMANENT position as a General Maintenance and Operations Supervisor with the Directorate of Public Works, Fort Jackson, SC. Learn more about this agency Duties Coordinate a variety of general maintenance related operations performed by work leaders, and journeyman level workers in accordance with regulatory and organizational guidelines. Direct employees within a variety of general maintenance and repair tasks in accordance with mission requirements. Establish the standard operating procedures for the branch in accordance with organizational guidance. Make visual and operational inspections of work accomplished to ensure facilities are maintained in an acceptable state of repair. Requirements Conditions of employment Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation. This is a key emergency-designated, weather-essential position. Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid state driver's license. Subject to call back after hours seven days a week. This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time. A pre-employment medical examination is required prior to assignment into the position and annually thereafter. This position is supervisory as defined by the Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) General Schedule Supervisory Guide (GSSG). A one year probation to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties is required unless previously completed. Qualifications Who May Apply: US Citizens Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) General Maintenance and Operations Supervisor ~ without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common duties which include: Facilitating work operations utilizing administrative authority to coordinate work operations; and Managing preventative maintenance, carpentry, the locksmith shop, and plumbing matters of assigned facilities. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Education Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. This position requires a 1 year probationary period during which the agency evaluates your fitness and whether your continued employment advances the public interest.
