The employee will serve as an Accounting Technician at the Richard L. Roudebush VA Medical Center in Indianapolis, IN. The primary purpose of this position is performing various functions involving the maintenance and reporting of financial accounting data.

Duties

Duties include, but may not be limited to the following:
Receives, reviews and assures completeness and compliance of procedures and availability of funds within the automated funds and funds control point databases.
Coordinates and receives phone calls with internal/external customers to obtain or provide information for expenditures, financial concerns and other accounting issues.
Monitors and facilitates daily workloads to meet established deadlines and goals, assisting team members as required to meet established goals.

Reviews accounting and funds daily listings to assure transmission data interfaces with financial management system and general ledger.
Validates the posting of accounts payable transactions.
Assigns proper accounting entries for documents and verifies coding and discounts in order to correct data input, obligation of funds, and costing of proper general accounts.
Works with suppliers, accounts receivable and credit departments to resolve issues.
Works with financial institutions to identify and recover inappropriate charges.
Provides training to accounting technicians on accounts payable, accounts receivable, and sales reporting applications.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm

Qualifications
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must possess at least one (1) year of specialized experience that equipped them with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of this position, and that is typically in or related to the work of this position. To be creditable, this experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-5 level in the Federal service. Specialized experience includes: performing financial management functions utilizing knowledge of accounting and budget regulations, policies and procedures; assigning accurate transaction coding; processing disbursements, payments and collections; approving purchase card orders; maintaining accounting/financial ledgers; computing budget estimates; recording of collection to accounts receivable and using computer software programs (i.e., Microsoft office) and accounting/financial systems/databases.

IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Physical Requirements: Are of the type that would normally occur in an office environment. Stress levels mount during regularly occurring accounting time frame deadlines - monthly, quarterly and end-of-fiscal year. Most of the time is spent seated. Requires some walking, bending, standing, lifting and climbing stairs.
