Summary About the Position: This position is located at Tripler Army Medical Center, Hawaii. This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. Learn more about this agency Duties Transporting patients and/or personal belongings to/from outpatient setting and inpatient clinical areas for hospital admissions and discharges. Adhere to facilities requirements and procedures for ensuring patient and staff safety during patient transport process. Provide administrative support to hospital staff when designated due to workload and mission requirements. Clean and decontaminate transportation equipment per hospital policies and infection control guidelines prior to placing the patient on the equipment and after each patient use with appropriate disinfecting agents per hospital policy. Aid the hospital staff in calling hospital codes when directed, assists in basic life-saving resuscitation procedures during any emergency crisis in any hospital location where assistance is needed. Assist with activities of daily living for all patients to include but not limited to: bathing, changing clothes, changing linen, oral care, hair and skin care, shaving, bowel elimination assistance, foley care, and wound care. Requirements Conditions of employment Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation. This position is a Testing Designated Position subject to pre-employment screening and random drug testing. Selectees will be required to consent to participation in random drug urinalysis testing. A pre-placement medical examination is required. Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position. Must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Red Cross. Advanced certification (e.g., ALS) does not supersede BLS. This position may have specific initial background investigation and periodic re-verification requirements since its duties may require interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age on a recurring basis Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 11. This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations. Employee shifts are rotated on a regularly scheduled basis. This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination. This position has been designated "Mission Essential". Qualifications Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. General and/or Specialized Experience: Six months of general experience (1) any type of work that demonstrates my ability to perform the work of the position, or (2) experience that provided a familiarity with nonprofessional nursing care, such as performing work in a hospital, outpatient clinic, nursing home, or other medical, nursing or patient care facility AND at least six months of Specialized Experience which is equivalent to the GS-03 grade level in the Federal service which includes providing personal nursing care; assist with procedures as directed; obtaining vital signs or specimens from patients and maintain patient medical records. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-03). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you may qualify if your education meets the definitions below: Education: Two-year degree program of study above high school in an accredited community college, junior college, college or university in practical nursing or in a field of study appropriate to the specialization of the position, such as education in a program for a psychology, psychiatric, or operating room technician. (Note: You MUST provide a copy of your transcripts.) OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education by 60. Add the two percentages. Education FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
