Summary
About the Position: This position is with Regional Health Command, Public Health - West with duty location at Hill Air Force Base, Utah. Serves as an Animal Health Technician at Hill AFB Veterinary Treatment Facility (VTF), responsible for managing the day-to-day support operations of the VTF.
Licensed Veterinary Technician, Certified Veterinary Technician, Registered Veterinary Technician or equivalent Licensure is preferred but not required.

Duties
Responsible for managing the day-to-day support operations of the Veterinary Treatment Facility (VTF) to include supervision of staff, upkeep of the facility, maintenance and replacement of equipment, safety and security training and management.
Performs complicated technical procedures involving diagnostic imaging, surgery, medicine, critical or general care, or any combination of veterinary support work in support of the VTF.
Communicates assignments, projects, problems to be solved, actionable events, milestones, and/or program issues under review, and deadlines and time frames for completion.
Identifies, distributes and balances workload and tasks among employees in accordance with established work flow and specialization.
Instructs personnel on the operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting issues of diagnostic and patient monitoring equipment for purposes of maintaining clinical readiness of VMO, technical staff, and military working animals.
Responsible for medical care of Military Working Dogs (MWDs) and Government Owned Animals (GOAs) assigned to Hill AFB and NAS Fallon.
Inserts intravenous catheters and calculates drug dosages, fluid levels and, exposure factors of diagnostic radiographic studies according to hospital SOPs; initiates fluid therapy for anesthesia support and intensive care patients.

This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to pre-employment drug testing and random drug testing during employment.
This position requires the selectee to pass a pre-employment physical.
Position has a requirement to lift up to 50lbs and up to 75lbs with assistance.
Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft.
This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is therefore subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) Provide treatment guidance and instruct new and junior personnel on standard operating procedures. 2) Assist the veterinarian with examinations, emergencies, and anesthetic procedures. 3) Modifying and/or reviewing documents. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).

Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Zoology, Biology, Chemistry, or Agricultural subjects. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
