Summary This position is located in Office of NPS Liaison to the White House, in the White House and President's Park Division.The primary purpose of the position is to operate one or more motor vehicles. Learn more about this agency Duties The major duties of the Motor Vehicle Operator position include, but are not limited to, the following: Operate motor vehicles including platform trucks, van trucks, stake trucks, dump trucks, specialty pumping equipment and trash. Drive vehicles over public roads at highway speeds to transport passengers, supplies, materials or equipment and tools or to tow equipment throughout rural and urban areas. Operate vehicles over rough terrain, in close quarters and in heavy traffic on both long and short hauls Perform routine preventative maintenance such as checking and adding fluids to bring to proper levels, checking air pressure and adding when required. Perform semi-skilled and unskilled maintenance, repair and janitorial work in and on various unit buildings Requirements Conditions of employment U.S. Citizenship required. Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication. Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program. You will be required to submit to a drug test and receive a negative drug test result prior to appointment. In addition, this position is subject to random testing for illegal drug use. Government Charge Card: You may be required to complete training and obtain/maintain a government charge card with travel and/or purchase authority. As a condition of employment for accepting this position, you will be required to serve a 1 year probationary period during which your fitness and whether your continued employment advances the public interest will be evaluated. This probationary period is an extension of the appointment process and therefore requires the agency to determine if continued employment would advance the public interest, meet the organization goals and mission of the agency, and/or otherwise promote the efficiency of the service. You must possess and maintain a current Class B (or higher) Commercial Driver's License. . You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided. You may be required to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime and shift work. You may be required to travel overnight away from home up to 3 nights per month. You must obtain a government charge card for travel purposes. Applicants must be at least (1)18 years old or (2) at least 16 years old and: (a) Have graduated from high school or been awarded a certificate equivalent to graduating from high school; or (b) Have completed a formal vocational training program; or (c) Have received a statement from school authorities agreeing with their preference for employment rather than continuing their education; or (d) Be currently enrolled in a secondary school and either work only during school vacation periods or work part-time during the school year under a formal student employment program. Physical Demands: Moderate physical effort is needed by this position to maneuver the longer and heavier vehicles, especially when backing these vehicles. Drivers at the grade 7 level exert moderate physical effort in operating, turning, backing, and controlling vehicles which carry heavier loads or larger numbers of people than vehicles at the grade 6 level. Working Conditions: Incumbent is required to work outside and is exposed to extreme hot and cold temperatures.
