The position is located in the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Veterans Health Administration (VHA), and the Mid-Atlantic Health Care Network Central Virginia VA Healthcare System (CVHCS), Richmond VA Medical Center in the Nutrition and Food Service (NFS).

Duties
Major duties and responsibilities include:
Operates vehicles such as a box truck or cargo van (sprinter) with a gross weight of up to 26,000 pounds and operates a gate lift to carry out duties and functions for Nutrition and Food Service.
Operates vehicle over Federal, state, and county roads and city streets in all traffic conditions to drive and pick up items overlooked or missing from vendor deliveries; and is required to load and unload vehicle.
Transports food service supplies, meal trays and other items essential to the services provided by Nutrition and Food Service.
Loads and unloads food trucks, assuring that cargo is protected from the weather and secured to prevent falling.
Is responsible for aspects of the vehicle to include maintenance and driving. Incumbent is responsible for coordination with motor pool for maintenance and repairs; for keeping vehicle's interior and exterior clean; for all record keeping of fuel, mileage, and reports to the GSA Motor Pool; and the accuracy of the monthly GSA billing, which includes reviewing the monthly gas bill to ensure it is accurate and notifying the motor pool for in discrepancies in the bill.
Collects and files all completed motor vehicle trip tickets. The position will promote positive customer service by providing supplies in a timely manner to meet Veteran scheduling, programming, and dining needs.
Storeroom/ingredient control support.
Receiving and checking in deliveries from supply warehouse, prime vendor, bakery, dairy, and produce contracts; operating electronic power jack lift to move large pallets of food and nonfood supplies from loading dock to appropriate storage areas; assembling, weighing, and/or measuring ingredients for issuance from bulk stock; and processing storeroom requisitions for Veteran programs and transport supplies.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: 06:00-02:30 PM And 10:00-06:30 PM - 40 hours/per week

Qualifications
PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK CONDITIONS:
Motor Vehicle operator works in all weather conditions. The duties performed consist of moderate to heavy physical effort in climbing in or on vehicles, trailers, cars, or vans to load, unload or tie down material and equipment; may include pushing and pulling carts, lifting equipment, supplies, etc. Incumbent must be physically sound and have good coordination of eyes, hands, feet and vision and depth perception. Incumbent must be mentally alert to traffic hazards and dangers of the highway.
Selectee operates vehicles in all types of traffic and weather on public roads (or the equivalent); exposed to the danger of serious accidents, heavy traffic, and highway speeds over complicated road and interchange systems. Incumbent may be exposed to dirt and fumes and to the possibility of cuts,
bruises, and broken bones because of accidents while driving or from falling object when loading and unloading the vehicle. Motor Vehicle Operator handles other related duties as assigned, which may include snow and ice removal during extreme circumstances or emergency situations. Selectee will also work in an office setting while maintaining vehicle log and maintenance information.

Applicants who appear to meet the screen out element are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated from consideration. The potential eligibles are rated against the remainder of the job elements. IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Receiving Service Credit for Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave: Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior work experience or military service experience. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave. Such credit must be requested and approved prior to the appointment date and is not guaranteed.
