You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driverβs license.
You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.

Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is the ability to perform the duties of an Instrument Mechanic as demonstrated by the following: 1.Thorough knowledge and understanding of electrical and electronic principles including knowledge of system relay logic circuits, able to interpret wiring diagrams, able to work on instruments and equipment with voltages ranging from 24 VDC to 480 VAC. 2. Ability to use a variety of electrical and electronic test instruments including mulitmeter, megger, milliamp generator. 3. Ability to use a variety of tools including basic electrical and electronic hand tools, power tools including drills, soldering kits, knockout sets, crimp sets. 4. Thorough knowledge and understanding of PLC applications, SCADA systems, wireless communication applications. 5. Thorough knowledge and understanding of Motor Control Centers, VFD applications, Soft Starter applications. 6. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, including following written and oral instructions from Supervisor. **NOTE** This information must be supported by your resume in order to be considered for this position. This announcement uses the Defense Industrial Base, Major Range and Test Facilities direct hire authority to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to certain positions in the competitive service.
Selectee occasionally lifts and carries weights up to 50 lbs. Work involves standing, and sitting positions for continuous periods as well as frequent bending, kneeling, stooping, and crouching.
Works indoors under favorable conditions of illumination and ventilation; occasionally works outdoors "onsite" under adverse or inclement weather conditions. Occasionally works in confined dark spaces.
Work occasionally involves fumes and unpleasant odors (e.g. cleaning solvents and preservative sprays) and equipment containing mercury. As H2S (Hydrogen Sulfide) is a common gas in the wastewater system, selectee will be exposed to it in amounts deemed safe by OSHA. Is intermittently exposed to common electrical/mechanical industrial hazards. Is exposed to raw sewage and sewage gases.
Selectee may be required to perform off-station and off-Ohau "on-site" work assignments. These work assignments may involve working in hazardous duty areas and the working of irregular hours. Temporary duty assignments will involve travel by commercial or military aircraft an surface craft for training and development purposes.
Employee may be required to work overtime, is subject to emergency recall seven days a week and is subject to shift work.
Occasionally assigned duties will require selectee to enter into and work inside confined spaces. Selectee will be required to receive a pre-placement physical examination based upon the type of work performed and hazards to be encountered, an annual examination based on the potential of these hazards and a termination examination upon termination of employment or reassignment to other duties.
