Summary This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: This is a Firefighter (Basic Life Support), GS-0081-08, position US Army Aviation Center of Excellence located in Fort Rucker, Alabama. Duties Conducts a complete examination of the patient to determine the nature, extent, and seriousness of his condition and searches for medical alert symbols. Responds to fires and directs the crew in firefighting activities. Participate in on-the-job training designed to keep employees current on work processes or procedures. Evaluates work in progress; amends or rejects work not meeting established standards. Requirements Conditions of employment Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation. This position requires the employee to submit to an annual medical examination and pre-employment physical. This position requires the employee to comply with Drug Abuse Testing requirements. This position requires the employee to work rotating shifts. This position requires the employee to wear a uniform and/or protective clothing. This position requires a valid stateside driver’s license. This position requires heavy physical lifting up to 45 pounds, climb ladders up to 100 feet, climb in and over obstacles and move charged fire hose lines. This position is subject to recall for all firefighting emergencies. This position is an inclement weather position. This position is mission essential in support of unscheduled installation training missions. This position requires the incumbent to work a 106 hours or a 144 hours bi-weekly tour of duty Qualifications Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: GS-08: One year of specialized experience which includes (1) controlling or extinguishing fires as a member of an organized military, industrial, volunteer or governmental fire department or brigade; (2) rescue operations; (3) detection, reduction or elimination of potential fire hazards; (4) operation of fire communications equipment; (5) controlling hazardous materials incidents and/or (6) developing, implementing or providing training in fire protection and prevention. ******In addition to meeting the specialized experience requirement for the GS-08 Grade: Must be certified within the DoD Fire and Emergency Services Fire Fighter Certification system at Firefighter I, Firefighter II, Airport Firefighter, Fire Officer I, Fire Inspector I, Fire Instructor I, Emergency Medical Technician and current state drivers license. All certificates and licenses must be uploaded with application. Education Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. Additional information Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship. One year trial/probationary period may be required. Direct Deposit of Pay is required.
