Summary This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Domestic Defense Industrial Base Facilities & the Major Range and Test Facilities Base to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: Performs a variety of pipefitter tasks including installing, replacing, or repairing various pipes, shut-off valves, joints, unions, flanges, safety valves, ceiling or wall radiators, and other fixtures. Duties Install and repair pipes and fixtures to ensure proper functionality. Prepare and assemble pipe systems to precise specifications and requirements. Modify structures for pipe installations while ensuring structural integrity and design compliance. Adjust steam lines to optimize system performance and prevent damage. Manage tools and materials by tracking inventory, maintaining records, repairing equipment, and ensuring stock accuracy to support efficiency. Requirements Conditions of employment Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation. This position requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain a valid state driver's license. This position requires incumbent to complete training in Title 29, Code of Federal Regulations, 19 10, for OSHA standards as they pertain to Asbestos, PPE, Hazardous Material Handling 1 year after assignment to these duties. This position requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain a State issued Class T certification for Water Collection and Distribution within 1 year of assignment and attend annual refresher training as required. A pre-appointment and annual physical is required. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Pipefitter ~ without more than normal supervision. Must possess the ability to perform common duties including Pipefitter duties such as installing, replacing, repairing various pipes, shut-off valves, joints, unions, flanges, and safety valves. I can adjust die to cutter or threader, measure, cut, and thread lengths of pipe. Remove, assemble, lay, or hang pipe.- Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. PHYSICAL EFFORT: Employee often works from ladders, scaffolds, and platforms where parts of systems are in hard-to-reach places. The incumbent may be required to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. The incumbent may be required to lift and carry heavy items. All lifts over 50 pounds will be assisted with a two person lift or using a mechanical handling equipment lifting device. The two person lift limit is 100 pounds and will only be used for single event, non-routine lifts. WORKING CONDITIONS: Employee works both indoors and outdoors and may be exposed to inclement weather. There is considerable exposure to dirt, dust, fumes, and temperature extremes. The employee may also be exposed to the possibility of strains, cuts, scrapes, bruises, burns, and infections. The employee performs duties that may involve the handling and/or removal of friable and non-friable asbestos. Education This job does not have an education qualification requirement. You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship. One year trial/probationary period may be required. Direct Deposit of Pay is required.
