Job Summary

To pack or wrap and pack units produced on the Will 525 Memo Book Machine and to assist the "A" Operator in setting up, operating and maintaining the machine and equipment.

Responsibilities

1. Packs loose or wraps and packs Spiral books of acceptable quality.

2. Assists the "A" Operator by performing independently or helping to perform, to: set up machine and supporting equipment to rule, cut, insert cover, back and/or dividers, round corner, punch, drill and insert wire for various sizes and counts of spiral books scheduled.

3. Assists the "A" Operator by performing independently or helping to perform, to: change ruling pens/sleeves, transfer roller and pick up rollers in inking station.

4. Assists the "A" Operator by performing independently or helping to perform, to: maintain the ink supply in ink fountains.

5. Assists the "A" Operator by performing independently or helping to perform, to: prepare rolls of paper, load to machine, and lace up.

6. Assists the "A" Operator by performing independently or helping to perform, to: position spool of wire to the inserter and thread. JOB CODE #510B

7. Assists the "A" Operator by performing independently or helping to perform, to: maintain supply of covers, backs, and dividers in the sheet inserters.

8. Assists the "A" Operator by performing independently or helping to perform, to: adjust and maintain all necessary adjustments and/or repairs during the entire production run to insure optimum productivity and product quality.

9. Assists the "A" Operator by performing independently or helping to perform, to: investigate machine breakdowns, determine cause and make necessary repairs.

10. Assists the "A" Operator by performing independently or helping to perform, to: remove, repair, and reinstall or replace defective parts.

11. Inspects product to insure acceptable quality.

12. Becomes knowledgeable about machine operation and operates equipment in the absence of an "A" Operator.

13. Automatically advances to "A" Operator position when vacancy occurs according to seniority within the classification and time served on the apprenticeship schedule.

14. Performs preventive maintenance and lubrication.

15. Complies with all safety policies (e.g. guard use, hearing protection, etc.), reporting any violation to immediate supervisor.

16. Prepares daily record of work performed.

17. Monitors inventory level of routinely used production materials and supplies, informing appropriate personnel of inventory needs.

Qualifications

The successful candidates must have a high school diploma or equivalent. Ability to read manufacturing orders and manuals, perform basic mathematics, solve mechanical problems, work independently, and communicate with other operators and supervisory personnel. Must have ability to use hand tools and ability to operate hand jack.
