Emergency Preparedness SpecialistEmergency Management DivisionSalary: $84,271 - $90,661This is a non-supervisory position.Job Summary:This role supports the Emergency Management Division of the Office of the Sergeant at Arms, providing comprehensive emergency planning and operations for the U.S. House of Representatives. The position supports daily life safety programs, including planning, training, drills, and notifications, and works with Legislative Branch partners, federal agencies, and private entities on emergency preparedness and safety standards.Duties:Typical duties include, but
are not necessarily limited to:Provides direct support to the development, readiness, and implementation of
the House life safety and emergency preparedness program and on occasion, works
independently to provide guidance and coordination, for related activities,
projects, and programs.Supports the Office Emergency Coordinator program, including outreach,
training, planning assistance, program administration, data management, and
related tasks for Member, Committee, and support offices.Delivers prescribed training on topics of emergency preparedness, life safety,
emergency planning, and protective actions to small and large groups virtually,
in offices, and classroom settings.Supports curriculum development, data analysis, and records administration.Works with Legislative Branch Organizations, House offices, and stakeholders to
develop life safety plans at the campus, building, and office level.Liaises with appropriate Federal agencies and private sector entities regarding
issues, initiatives, and standards related to emergency preparedness and life
safety.Develops/reviews planning documents, procedures, briefing slides, reference
documents, white papers, and other documentation, as needed.Attends meetings, captures notes, and shares key takeaways with applicable
staff.Regularly communicates with partners and/or senior officials (orally and in
writing) to effectively foster working relationships.Supports development, readiness, and implementation of the House life safety
and continuity programs, including support to projects, exercises, and special
events, as needed.Liaises with appropriate Congressional staff, other Federal agencies, and
private sector entities regarding issues, initiatives, and standards related to
emergency management.Maintains ability to operate equipment and functions in the House Operations
Center in accordance with EMD standards and guidelines.Serves as a watch officer in the House Operations Center Duty Program; 1-4 days
per month.Acts to support the Deputy Assistant, Preparedness, and Preparedness Manager to
carry out various assignments which further the goals of EMD.Performs other duties as
assigned.

Requirements:Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.Emergency Management,
exercise planning, training delivery, and/or

permanent. Monday – Friday, 8:30 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. Must be able to work outside
of normal business hours, when necessary, evenings and weekends as needed. Physical
Requirements and Work Environment:This job is based in a typical
office environment. Actual weight handled varies, but the role involves
handling items including books, documents, and equipment weighing up to 25 lbs.
The incumbent should be capable of meeting physical requirements, which may
include sitting, lifting, bending, crouching, walking, and standing. Security
Requirements:Ability to obtain and
maintain a Top Secret security clearance. Other
Significant Factors:Job requires on-call support.Job requires occasional travel.Job may be required to report to work in all conditions.Job may require various
