Duties
As a Social Worker, you will serve in a detention facility staffed by ICE Health Service Corps (IHSC), providing care for detainees in ICE Custody. IHSC has a multi-sector, multidisciplinary workforce of more than 900 employees, including commissioned corps officers of the U.S. Public Health Service (USPHS), Federal civil employees, and contract staff. IHSC also provides medical support during ICE enforcement operations in the air, on the ground and at sea. You will perform the following duties:
Provide comprehensive case management through written and oral communication with patients and with members of interdisciplinary teams.
Perform counseling for individuals, groups, couples and families with substance abuse problems, providing relapse prevention training, motivational interviewing strategies, and crisis intervention counseling when needed.
Work with a wide range of clinical social work concepts, principles, procedures, and practices of Social Work relating to alcohol and drug prevention, education, and treatment of substance use disorders.

Probationary Period: This is a full-time permanent position (Career/Career-Conditional appointment). Upon appointment to this position, you may be required to serve a one-year probationary period.
BLS Certification: You must maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) for healthcare provider certification. This BLS certification must always be maintained in current status while performing services.

Applicants must demonstrate they meet the Basic AND Specialized Experience Qualification requirements noted below. You qualify for GS-12 if you possess the following:
Basic Requirements:
A. Have a master's degree in social work in a school accredited by the Council on Social Work Education. (You must provide a copy of your transcripts with your application).
B. Possess and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) for healthcare provider certification. This certification shall be maintained in a current status at all times while performing services.(You must provide a copy with your application).
C. Possess and maintain a current, permanent, full and unrestricted license to practice clinical social work independently as recognized in the state licensed, whereby clinical supervision is not required. (You must provide a copy with your application)
AND
Specialized Experience for GS-12: Applicant must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and responsibility to the GS-11 level in the Federal service OR equivalent public or private sector experience performing the following duties:
Working with bio-psychosocial instruments to make assessments and evaluations of mental, emotional, attitudinal, and intellectual status;
Preparing written case documentation involving multiple dysfunctions;
Preparing treatment plans that restore patients to their normal work and social environments.

National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

This position requires specific coursework and/or a degree to meet the basic education requirement. Salary: The salary range indicated in this announcement reflects the lowest and highest potential salaries for this position.
