Summary About the Position: This position is located in Education Department at Madigan Army Medical Center (MAMC). The work involves coordinating and instructing a training program designed to provide emergency skills to all medical personnel assigned to MAMC. The incumbent requires making decisions concerning the coordination of the program and instruction methods. Advance in Hire may be authorized. Learn more about this agency Duties Responsible for the coordination of I Corps/(MAMC) Delayed Evacuation Casualty Management (DECM), PMDB-M (Prevention and Management of Disruptive Behavior-Military), ICTL (Individual Critical Task List), and Medic Tables I - VIII (TC8-800) programs. Ensure the completion of the following mission essential tasks: provide high quality initial training; soldiers can perform in technical and tactical environments; and provides impetus for sustainment training to maintain readiness. Plan and instruct classes such as shock management, Airway, Advanced Airway, basic medication, cardiopulmonary pulmonary resuscitation, and management of bleeding in accordance with current treatment strategies. Present instruction in the form of lecture, conference, group discussions and practical exercises in Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) techniques. Write and revise lesson plans and practical exercises and select requisitions and organize training aids. Instruct courses in Emergency Medical Technician (EMT-B), Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS), Trauma AIMS, and Individual Critical Task List (ICTL). Instruct courses in Prevention and Management of Disruptive Behavior-Military (PMDB-M) and Delayed Evacuation Causality Management Course (DECM), and continuing education courses for EMT/68W (Military Occupational Specialty). Develop, administer and grade written and practical examinations. Evaluate course content and recommend changes and Coordinate Healthcare Specialists Training Program. Coordinate with all department personnel, combat arms units, Reserve and National Guard Units as well as other Military Services regarding updated lesson plans, training objectives and new combat information. Requirements Conditions of employment Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation. This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination or must provide a recognized exemption. Employees assigned to a medical treatment facility are required to be screened for applicable immunizations or pre-existing immunity based on occupational risk, regardless of job series (Tuberculosis, Hepatitis, etc.) This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position. This position requires moderate to heavy lifting of up to 50 pounds (lbs). This position has a TDY or business travel requirement of 10% of the time to various locations. This may require travel on military aircraft, ships, and vehicles. This position may be designated "Mission Essential." In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations. This position requires Basic Life Support training certification from the American Heart Association or Military Training Network within 30 days of employment. This position requires National Registry of Emergency Medical Technician (NREMT) or National Registry of Emergency Medical Technician - Paramedic (NREMT-P) certification/licensure within 30 days of employment. Qualifications Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience that demonstrates a practical knowledge of the subject area of the position and of the methods and techniques of instruction, which includes: assisting with instructing Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) courses to individuals and/or groups; planning and instructing classes in medical life saving techniques such as Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Program (CPR) and Basic Life Support (BLS); and using automated systems to prepare instructional training materials and maintain training records for organization. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07). OR Education: A master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree with a major study in education or a subject area related to the position to be filled, such as, Health Care Administration, Health Care Instructor or Emergency Medicine. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages. Education FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university. Paramedic experience is highly desirable. Male applicants born after December 31, 1959 must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.
