Summary
This position is located at West Point Recreational Swim.
Incentives and Bonuses
Incentives will not be paid.
Duties
Serves as a lifeguard for indoor and outdoor pools and works under the direction of the Installation Aquatics Program Manager. Employs safety rules for the protection of the pool guests. Maintains daily logs, reports and records as required.
Responsible for lifeguarding guests in attendance at the assigned aquatics facility. Provides maximum pool area surveillance and responds to emergencies; rescues pool patrons and administers first aid as required.
Assists in the conduct of aquatic swimming and water survival training according to TC 21-21 or with American Red Cross swim lessons. Participates in required training (on-the-job training emergency rescue drills, emergency action plan simulations).
Assists in maintaining pool and area clean and free from hazards. Performs periodic water tests and reports results to the pool leader on duty. Provides information to swimmers regarding safety/health/admission rules and procedures.
Tactfully warns patrons who repeatedly disregard safety rules and follows facility Standard Operating Procedures for disciplinary actions. Assists in coaching or preparing the competitive and non-competitive swimming programs as required.

A one-year probationary period may be required.
Satisfactorily complete an employment verification (E-Verify) check.
Must be available to accept varying and/or rotating shifts to include nights, weekends and holiday.
May be assigned to irregular duties or when needed for special recreational events and related requirements.
Lifeguards must have good vision (based upon an acceptable standard of 20/40 vision or better, either (with glasses or contacts) or uncorrected) while on duty to effectively recognize all emergencies, incidents and rule breaking.
In case of exposure to infectious disease, incumbent is required to obtain the Hepatitis B vaccination series within a 24-hour period.
Continuous exposure to sun and prolonged periods of high temperature and humidity.
Position also requires lifting and carrying items weighing up to 45 pounds.
Must have current health assessment which documents good physical health, and free from communicable disease IAW current Army Policy.
Incumbent is required to follow environmental safeguards and wear personal protective equipment.
This position is dual compensation exempt; All GS and NAF employees whether full time or part time are eligible to apply for this position.
Fifteen (15) year old lifeguards must comply with the restriction of the DOL Child Labor Laws (Jan 17, 2006).
All required certifications must be kept current.
Qualifications

A qualified candidate must possess the following:
1. Possess and maintain the following certifications:
Lifeguarding and First Aid (American Red Cross or nationally recognized equivalent i.e. Star Guard, YMCA or ELLIS)
American Red Cross Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation for the Professional; CPR for the Professional Rescuer/AED or equivalent (American Heart Association CPR/AED)
First Aid
These certifications must be reflected on your resume and your certifications must be uploaded at the time of application to be considered eligible for this position.
In addition to the above qualifications, candidates who possess the following qualifications will be considered "Highly Preferred" or "Best Qualified":
1. Possess a Waterfront Lifeguard Certification
The certification must be reflected on your resume and your certification uploaded at the time of application to be considered a highly preferred candidate.
Applicants meeting the Highly Preferred criteria will be referred first to the Selecting Official. All other applicants will be referred for consideration if the certificate (referral list) is returned with no selection.
Education
This job does not have an education qualification requirement.

Initial Cut-Off Date:
Monday, January 5, 2026 (Applications must be received by 11:59 PM EST). Area of Consideration
This job is open to US Citizens and Non-Citizens residing within a 75-mile radius of West Point, NY. (Military Spouse Preference (MSP) and Involuntarily Separated Military Preference (ISMP) eligible candidates are included in the area of consideration.)

PCS Costs
Payment of Permanent Change of Station (PCS) costs are not authorized based on a determination that a PCS move is not in the Government's interest.
Allowances and Differentials
This job is part of a pay-banded system. Sunday premium pay for regularly scheduled employees and night differential pay may be authorized by the Garrison Commander.
Non-foreign overseas allowances, cost of living (COLA), and differentials will not be paid, contingent upon eligibility.
