Summary
THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION.
This National Guard position is for a POLICE OFFICER, Position Description Number NGD2499P01 and is part of the TN 134th ARW Air National Guard.
This vacancy is covered by Association of Civilian Technicians (ACT), Chapter 114 (Smoky Mountain Chapter).
Duties
As a POLICE OFFICER, GS-0083-07, you will perform the full spectrum of police officer duties within the assigned jurisdictions: Incumbent may use full powers of apprehension and detention, which entails carrying a firearm, mirandizing suspects, preserving evidence, and testifying in court as it pertains to enforcing regulations within assigned jurisdiction. Conduct Investigations/Surveillance: Conduct investigations of crimes and complaints covering a wide range of subjects and allegations that are not within the scope of Air Force Office of Special Investigations (AFOSI) or the scope of the higher-level detectives assigned to the Squadron. Perform as Base Defense Operations Center (BDOC) Controller: Serve as the primary command and control (C2) function for all Integrated Defense forces, Perform emergency response and incident command and control: Acts as the initial on scene commander for significant and catastrophic events (e.g., active shooter, terrorist attacks, and natural disasters) and initiates Air Force Incident Management System (AFIMS). Perform other duties as assigned.

This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard, required prior to the effective date of placement.
Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform.
Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment.
Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the National Guard in the military grade listed in this announcement.
Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation.
May be required to successfully complete a trial period.
Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
Must not have used, distributed, or manufactured illicit narcotics or been arrested for any narcotics use, distribution or manufacturing.
No history of excessive alcohol use or arrested in the past two years for two or more alcohol related incidents regardless of disposition, except when proven not guilty.
Acceptance of a Federal position may terminate Tricare Reserve Select eligibility.
No acts of larceny, wrongful appropriation, robbery, burglary, housebreaking, misconduct in combat defined in UCMJ Articles 99-106, or any act that harmed or had the potential to harm the physical safety or well-being of animals.
Never convicted by a civilian court of a Category One, Two, or Three offense, nor exceeded the accepted number of Category Four offenses.
Irregular and/or overtime (compensatory) hours may be required to support operational requirements or contingencies or may be required to work hours outside of the normal duty day.
This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968.
The maximum entry age for DoD Law Enforcement is 37. An individual not appointed by the last day of the month in which the individual becomes age 37 will not be originally appointed or assigned to these positions.
For positions requiring a security clearance (Secret or Top Secret) the applicant must possess or be able to obtain a clearance within one year of appointment.
For positions requiring the operation of motor vehicles, candidates must have a valid state driver’s license for the state in which they live or are principally employed.

GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Must have experience, training or education in leading, managing, or performing security force activities; weapon systems and physical security; law and order; military working dog; combat arms; and area security operations; experience in the control and operations of firing ranges; inspects, repairs, and maintains ground weapons; experience in enforcing laws, maintaining law and order, preserving the peace, and protecting life and civil rights within the jurisdiction of military installations.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must have 12 months specialized experience in security and security forces requirements, procedures, and tactics to support installation physical security; experience of firearms and tactics for employing them in emergency situations; experience of principles and techniques of instruction used in combat arms weapons training and firing range instruction; experience of combat arms facilities management, including maintenance, classrooms, firing range structures, munitions buildings, and weapon vaults; experience of safety, security, and EEO regulations, practices, and procedures; experience of Security Forces' procedures and operating methods to independently perform the full range of Security Forces activities, to include protection level resources, installation entry controls, armed responses and dispatch duties; experience of small arms and maintenance requirements; experience of Air Force supply and equipment systems; experience of applicable Air Force, Department of Defense law enforcement, and security rules, regulations, instructions, practices, principles and procedures, including force protection, integrated base defense, anti-terrorism, and physical security; experience of police officer procedures and operating methods to independently perform the full range of Security Forces activities, to include protection level resources, installation entry controls, armed responses and dispatch duties.

If you are a male applicant who was born after 12/31/1959 and are required to register under the Military Selective Service Act, the Defense Authorization Act of 1986 requires that you be registered or you are not eligible for appointment in this agency (Register | Selective Service System : Selective Service System (sss.gov)).
Medical Requirements:1. To qualify for this series, a current physical and a cleared drug test are mandatory.
2. Normal color vision and normal depth perception are required, as defined by current Air Force Medical Examinations and Standards Instructions.
3. Distance visual acuity correctable to 20/20 in one eye and 20/30 in the other.
4. No speech disorder or noticeable communication deficiency as defined in AFI 48-123.
5. No diagnosed fear of acrophobia (fear of heights) or confined spaces.
6. To qualify for this series, must confirm there is no history of emotional instability, personality disorder, or other unresolved mental health problems.
7. No record of sleep disorders to include, but not limited to, sleep apneas, insomnias, hyper-somnias, narcolepsy, or restless leg syndrome.
8. No current diagnosis of Attention Deficit Disorder, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, or Perceptual/Learning Disorder(s); and, prescribed medication(s) to treat these disorders in the last 12 months.
9. No history of mood disorders including bipolar disorder, major depression, dysthymia, or depression not otherwise specified.
10. No recorded evidence of personality disorder, sustained or untreatable emotional instability to include depression, or suicidal behavior to include attempts, gestures, ideations, threats, or history of self-mutilation.
11. Individuals who had their spleens removed are not eligible for assignment to the military working dog program or any canine functions.
