Summary This position is for the Residency Director of Podiatry at the William S. Middleton VA Memorial hospital in Madison, WI. As the residency director in Podiatry, you have the authority and accountability for the operations of the program to comply with standards as set by the Council on Podiatric Medical Education. Duties Residency Director Duties: Specialty expertise and documented education and administration experience acceptable for carrying out the responsibilities. Oversee and ensure the quality of didactic and clinical education in all institutions that participate in the program. Approve the selection of the program faculty as appropriate and participate in ongoing quality assurance that the faculty are providing the required education for the trainees at all training sites. Evaluate the program and make changes that are aligned with the needs of the program and the requirements of the national accreditation board. Oversee the logistics of the program to be sure the residents have ample opportunities to meet all graduation requirements. Prepare and submit all information as requested by the Council on Podiatric Medical Education. Evaluate all trainees semiannually with documented evaluations and feedback. Ensure compliance with grievance and due process as per the institution. Duties for clinical care are also required and include but are not limited to: Diagnosis and foot/ankle pathology, and identification of related systemic conditions. Complete medical and surgical management of podiatric pathology Appropriate consultation, referral, and co-management of patients with complicating systemic conditions, and Health promotion and disease prevention. Prescription of pharmaceuticals and therapeutic devices, (orthotics, prosthetic devices, plaster casts, immobilizations devices, etc.) VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package. Must pass pre-employment physical examination. Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP). Qualifications Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Podiatrist Basic Requirements Degree as a doctor of podiatric medicine, or its equivalent, from a school of podiatric medicine approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs. Approved schools are United States schools of podiatric medicine approved by the Council on Podiatry Education of the American Podiatry Association in the year in which the degree was granted. ~AND~ Completed, or currently completing, residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. VA Podiatrists involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty status. Approved residencies are: (1) Those approved by the accrediting bodies for graduate medical education, the Council on Podiatric Medical Education, in the list published for the year the residency was completed, or (2) Other residencies and training experiences, or their equivalents, which the local Professional Standards Board determines to have provided an applicant with appropriate professional training. ~AND~ Currently hold, or will hold, a full and unrestricted license to practice Podiatry in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States or in the District of Columbia. Physical Requirements: The work requires standing or walking for a major portion of the work day. Physical requirements could consist of a variety of standing, walking, twisting, turning, sitting, bending, pushing, carrying and light lifting.
