If selected, you must meet the following conditions:
- Current or Former Political Appointees: The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees. If you are currently, or have been within the last 5 years, a political Schedule A, Schedule C or NonCareer SES employee in the Executive Branch, you must disclose this information to the HR Office. Failure to disclose this information could result in disciplinary action including removal from Federal Service.
- Serve a one year probationary period, if required.
- Undergo and pass a background investigation (Tier 3 investigation level).

The GS-11salary range starts at $ 82, 764 per year. The GS-09salary range starts at $ 68, 405 per year. The GS-07salary range starts at $ 55, 924 per year. If you are a new federal employee, your starting salary will likely be set at the Step 1 of the grade for which you are selected.
This position has a positive education requirement: Applicants must submit a copy of their college or university transcript(s) and certificates by the closing date of announcements to verify qualifications. If selected, an official transcript will be required prior to appointment.
Basic Requirements: You must have either A or B:
A. Degree: accounting, auditing; or a degree including auditing courses in a related field such as business administration, finance, or public administration that included or was supplemented by 24 semester hours in accounting. The 24 hours may include up to 6 hours of credit in business law.
OR
B. Combination of education and experience: at least 4 years of experience in accounting, or an equivalent combination of accounting experience, college-level education, and training that provided professional accounting knowledge. The applicant's background must also include one of the following:
- Twenty-four semester hours in accounting or auditing courses of appropriate type and quality. This can include up to 6 hours of business law;
- A certificate as Certified Public Accountant or a Certified Internal Auditor, obtained through written examination; or
- Completion of the requirements for a degree that included substantial course work in accounting or auditing, e.g., 15 semester hours, but that does not fully satisfy the 24-semester-hour requirement of paragraph A, provided that (a) the applicant has successfully worked at the full-performance level in accounting, auditing, or a related field, e.g., valuation engineering or financial institution examining; (b) a panel of at least two higher level professional accountants or auditors has determined that the applicant has demonstrated a good knowledge of accounting and of related and underlying fields that equals in breadth, depth, currency, and level of advancement that which is normally associated with successful completion of the 4-year course of study described in paragraph A; and (c) except for literal nonconformance to the requirement of 24 semester hours in accounting, the applicant's education, training, and experience fully meet the specified requirements.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS TO QUALIFY AT THE GS-11 LEVE:
In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-9 level in the Federal service. Specialized experience is work involving the identification and review of program data and comparing it to regulations, policy, procedures or other program criteria; and experience performing reviews in accordance with auditing standards.
OR
A Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or have successfully completed 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M. To be creditable, such education must be in a course of study that directly reflects the job-related competencies necessary to perform the duties of this position.
OR
A combination of directly related graduate level education and appropriate specialized experience that together meet the qualification requirements of this position.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS TO QUALIFY AT THE GS-9 LEVEL:
In addition to the Basic Requirements listed above, to qualify at the GS-9 level you must possess at least one of the following: One year of specialized experience that is equivalent to at least the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized Experience for this position is experience assisting in conducting complicated audits; performing work consisting of systematic evaluations; conducting activities relating to the detection of fraud and waste; and/or assisting in conducting performance and/or contract audits. OR
- A master's degree or equivalent graduate degree OR have completed two full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree. OR
- A combination of graduate level education and appropriate experience that together meet the qualification requirements of this position.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS TO QUALIFY AT THE GS-7 LEVEL:
In addition to the Basic Requirements listed above, to qualify at the GS-7 level you must possess at least one of the following:
- One year of specialized experience that is equivalent to at least the GS-05 grade level in the Federal. Specialized experience is experience obtaining, verifying and summarizing auditing documentation; applying professional auditing principles, practices and skills; and obtaining and evaluating information, ensuring accuracy and reliability. OR
- Have completed at least one full year of graduate level education (18 semester hours or the equivalent) in auditing, or in a related field such as business administration, finance, public administration, or accounting. OR
- Have completed all the requirements for a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university PLUS demonstrated Superior Academic Achievement as defined below. OR
A combination of graduate level education and appropriate experience that together meet the qualification requirements of this position.
Superior Academic Achievement (SAA) at the baccalaureate level is fully qualifying at the GS-7 level. To claim SAA, submit documentation of one of the following:
1. Class standing -- You must be in the upper third of your graduating class in the college, university, or major subdivision, such as the College of Liberal Arts or the School of Business Administration, based on completed courses.
2. Grade-point average (rounded to one decimal point) of:
- 3.0 or higher out of a possible 4.0 ("B" or better) as recorded on your official transcript, or as computed based on 4 years of education, or as computed based on courses completed during the final 2 years of your curriculum; or
- 3.5 or higher out of a possible 4.0 ("B+" or better) based on the average of the required courses completed in your major field or the required courses in your major field completed during your final 2 years of the curriculum.
- Election to membership in a national scholastic honor society in one of the national scholastic honor societies listed by the Association of College Honor Societies.
