WATER TREATMENT PLANT OPERATOR

Duties You will be responsible for the operation of a Class II water treatment plant with a rated capacity of 3.17 MGD. You will perform duties of monitoring and controlling the water treatment process that inlcudes; chemicals addition, Coagulation, Flocculation, Sedimentation, Chlorination, Filtration, pH control and Fluoridation. You will determine treatment and operational changes needed to remain within regulatory limits of purity, chemical requirements, and water production needs. You will use experience, laboratory results, established water quality targets, and instrumentation to determine the need for treatment modifications. You will maintain water system storage capacity by monitoring water tank elevations and coordinating filtration rates. Requirements Conditions of employment Must be a US Citizen. Must possess and maintain an appropriate Virginia State Water Treatment Plant Operator Claas I or II Certification by the Virginia Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation. Work conditions require the employee to drive a government motor vehicle. The employee is required to possess and maintain a valid driver's license and government driver's license at all times for this position. Government driver's license training provided by the government. You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license. You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift. You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination. Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing. This is a bargaining unit position. This position is considered Key/Emergency-Essential. You will be required to provide immediate and continuing support to ensure the success of combat operations or the availability of combat-essential systems.
