Summary
There is an anticipated vacancy for the position of SUPERVISORY ATTORNEY-ADVISOR in the ADMIRALTY AND CLAIMS DIVISION, OJAG(Code15) of NLSC.

Duties
You will supervise, assist, and develop the abilities of administrative, paralegal and attorney personnel within the Admiralty Branch.
You will ensure that adjudication of admiralty claims is supported by comprehensive legal research and exhaustive analyses of underlying facts and direct subordinates to take further action when necessary.
You will initiate prompt action to best defend the interests of the United States and its employees acting in the scope of their employment.
You will serve as agency counsel to DOJ in all phases of DON-related admiralty litigation; coordinating the production of Navy witnesses and evidence; and, providing other support to DOJ, as necessary.
You will advise DoD/DON on international maritime instruments; U.S. maritime and environmental statutes; and general U.S. maritime law.
You will develop and update OJAG Litigation Support processes, recommending changes to relevant DoD/DON regulations and policies.
You will advise and train OJAG personnel on litigation support requirements; supervise Litigation Support Paralegal and ensure appropriate and efficient use of litigation support contractors.

Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time
Supervisors in the executive branch have a heightened personal responsibility for advancing government ethics. You will be required to review the 14 General Principles of Ethical Conduct at 5 CFR 2635.101.
Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
Qualifications
This vacancy will be filled at the GS-15 level. To be considered for a GS 15, Your application package must include an official certificate issued within the past 3 months showing the applicant is a member in good standing of the Bar of the highest court of a State of the United States or a Territory of the United States or sufficient proof that the same has been requested with the appropriate licensing authority. Additionally, a Certificate or Letter of Good Standing with the Bar of the highest court of a State of the United States or a Territory of the United States that was issued within the past 3 months must be presented to the hiring manager within 15 calendar days of notification of selection.

Education
The successful applicant must have graduated with a J.D. or LL.M. from a law school accredited by the American Bar Association, be an active member in good standing of the bar of the highest court of a State, U.S. Commonwealth, U.S. territory, or the District of Columbia, and be admitted to practice before a state or federal court.
