Summary This vacancy is aimed at insourcing critical technical leadership skills. Roles may include being the technical lead over real-time mission operations in the Mission Control Center, mission systems development, testing, and integration, training and simulation, analysis, and other mission support functions essential to human spaceflight. Learn more about this agency Duties Serves as a Technical Lead in the Flight Operations Directorate (FOD) leading teams responsible for crew training, flight controller training, mission product development, technical analysis and mission operations. Responsible for ensuring that branch strategic plans, mission, vision, and values are communicated and integrated into the team's strategies, goals, objectives, and work. Leads the team in identifying, distributing, and balancing workload among employees; balancing between FOD or programmatic priorities. Coaches the team in the selection and application of appropriate problem solving methods and techniques as well as risk trades while striving for innovative, cost-effective solutions. Serves as coach and facilitator in coordinating team initiatives, implementation, and coalition building. Reports to the supervisor on team and individual work accomplishments, problems, and work processes, including individual and team training needs. Coordinates and leads integration activities across multiple stakeholders to ensure alignment with mission objectives, policies, and Directorate priorities. Addresses complex organizational problems by setting goals and using innovative and original approaches to meet the planning needs of the missions. Performs periodic reviews to assess achievement of major goals. Qualifications In addition to the Basic Education Requirement (in the Education section below), to qualify for this position you must meet the requirements below. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. To qualify for GS-14, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 level: Leading the development and implementation of training plans, processes, and objectives to ensure flight controllers, crew members, analysts, instructors and other personnel in support of readiness for real time spaceflight operations; Performing risk trades and mission readiness assessments to ensure crew and vehicle safety and mission success, developing or refining system requirements, technical solutions, or business processes to improve system functionality and organizational effectiveness for space mission operations; Collaborating across organizations such as operations, engineering, safety, Program office, or commercial and international partners to evaluate operations concepts, technical needs, implement technical solutions, and recommend improvements based on performance trends or operational requirements. Education Basic Education Requirement: You must have successfully completed a bachelor's degree with a major in one of the following: a) Engineering from a college or university that has ABET accredited engineering programs b) Physical Science, Mathematics, Life Science or other field of Science c) Social science, medical, or other fields directly related to the duties of the position.
