Learn more about this agency Duties Major Duties: Handle mice, maintain mouse breeding colony, collect tissue for genotyping, perform mouse surgical procedures. maintain animal inventory records. Tissue collection, processing, sectioning, staining and immunohistological labeling, and imaging. Analysis of acquired images using programs such as Zen and ImageJ. Organize and maintain data records in lab notebooks and in computer spreadsheets, graph and perform statistical analysis on results. Present results to PI and other lab members individually and in group settings. Participate in lab discussions of research journal articles and other relevant topics. Operate standard lab equipment such as microscopes, centrifuges, balances, and pH meters. Make laboratory solutions and prepare supplies for group use. maintain equipment in good working order. Maintain glassware supplies Work as a member of a team but must be able to work independently in the laboratory and animal facility. Assisting lab members in a variety of laboratory techniques as required/assigned, such as PCR, mouse behavioral testing, or administration of test substances. Assist with other lab maintenance tasks, such as cleaning, and preparation for lab safety inspections. You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below. Required specialized experience in research activity or control program work. Preferred specialized experience requested: Undergraduate level biology or chemistry coursework. Ability to follow instructions and protocols in written and spoken form. Ability to work on a team AND independently. General availability during normal business hours, Monday through Friday Experience working in a formal setting preferred Experience working with standard laboratory equipment preferred Good written and verbal communication skills) OR, Applicants may substitute education for the required specialized experience: Successfully completed at least 1 year above high school with course(s) that included at least 6 semester hours in any combination of scientific or technical courses such as biology, chemistry, statistics, entomology, animal husbandry, botany, physics, agriculture, or mathematics.
