Job Description
Summary
This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
About the Position: Serve as the Fire Chief at Fort Knox, KY.
This position is included under the provisions of Special Retirement Coverage (SRC) and may have both a maximum entry age and a mandatory retirement date.

Duties
Manage the Fire and Emergency Services programs.
Assume control of firefighting and emergency activities while on duty.
Responsible for the execution of administrative and personnel management functions.
Manage the installation emergency communications center.
Requirements
Conditions of employment
This position requires the completion of pre-employment and periodic subsequent medical examination in accordance with DoDM 6055.06 to ensure continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
The duties of this position meet the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs. Detection of the presence of drugs is warranted.
Position may be designated Emergency Essential (E-E) in support of mobilization and wartime mission.
Must be able to obtain and maintain SECRET security clearance.
Must maintain a valid State and Government Driver's License.
Must participate in the Division Wellness Program.
Position subject to occasional travel.
Position subject to immediate recall and extended shifts during emergencies.
Position required to work (1) 24-hour shift weekly.
Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level in the Federal Service which includes: managing a fire protection and prevention program, developing and implementing emergency response and contingency plans, and managing subordinate personnel.
In addition to meeting the specialized experience requirement above, applicants must also possess: Fire Officer IV, Instructor II, Inspector II, Hazardous Material Operations and Incident Commandercertified through DoD Fire and Emergency Services Certification System, International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC), or the Fire Service Professional Qualifications System (PRO-Board) in accordance with DoD 6055.06-M.
Education
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone -- no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
Additional information
Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.
You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship.
This position is supervisory as defined by the Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) General Schedule Supervisory Guide (GSSG). A one year probation to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties is required unless previously completed.
Direct Deposit of Pay is required.
Selection is subject to restrictions resulting from Department of Defense referral system for displaced employees.

Salary includes applicable locality pay or Local Market Supplement.
Permanent Change of Station (PCS) allowances may be authorized, subject to the provisions of the Joint Travel Regulations and an agency determination that a PCS move is in the Government Interest.
Recruitment and relocations incentives MAY be authorized.
Student loan repayment MAY be authorized.
Salary negotiations for those candidates who are new to Federal service MAY be authorized.
Credit for prior non-federal work experience and certain military service for determining annual leave accrual rate MAY be authorized.
This position has been identified as a secondary position and has been approved for special retirement coverage (SRC) under the provisions of title 5 United States Code, Sections 833(c) and 8412(c) by DoD Memorandum dated November 22, 2013. Employee must meet all transfer requirements for their respective retirement system on the date of the move to this secondary position to be entitled to remain covered under SRC.
