Summary
About the Position: Performs a variety of duties involved in the fabrication of prescription eyeglasses and other eyewear such as sunglasses, gas mask inserts, eye pro inserts, etc. The employee may perform a specific task for an extended period of time, but is required to be skilled in and to rotate to all other tasks as needed.

Duties
Receives prescriptions from the Customer Service Department.
Sorts and trays work tickets for processing and selects proper lenses from stock.
Operates Lab Management Software for operation of Lab equipment using the Automated Blocking machinery to prepare lenses for edging.
In addition, can manually check lens power on lens measuring unit, spot optical center and stamp with a cutting line.
Operate optical equipment such as edgers, blocker and Lensometers.
This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is therefore subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations.
Applicants tentatively selected for appointment to this position will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations.

Incumbent is subject to a medical clearance examination prior to employment. This position may require an annual physical or medical surveillance examination.
This position may require the incumbent to wear a uniform and/or protective gear.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Prescription Eyeglass Maker~ without more than normal supervision. A Prescription Eyeglass Maker without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common Prescription Eyeglass Maker tasks. I can utilize the proper tools and devices to assemble frames and attach pieces; adjust lenses and frames to correct alignment and repair broken parts; package eyeglasses for shipment and order and receive frames, lenses and consumable supplies. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

PHYSICAL EFFORT: The work requires standing, stooping, bending and reaching. Depending on daily assignment may sit or stand for extended periods of time. Close eye and hand coordination is required. The employee must frequently handle/lift objects weighing up to 10 pounds and occasionally objects weighing up to 65 pounds.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed in a well-lighted ventilated Optical Fabrication laboratory. Hands are subjected to minor cuts, bruises or abrasions and burns. May be required to wear safety glasses and hearing protection in designated areas of the laboratory.

This position requires a 1 year probationary periodduring which the agency evaluates your fitness and whether your continued employment advances the public interest.
