Summary
About the Position: The Military Entrance Processing Stations (MEPS) is a small organization with a mission critical to our national defense. Our job is to process applicants for all five services into the armed forces. The job is both challenging and rewarding. For most new military service members, processing through the MEPS is the first real exposure to a military operation. For that reason, we seek customer-oriented employees with a desire to serve their country in a meaningful way.
Duties
As a Processing Technician for the a Military Entrance Processing Station (MEPS), you will provide administrative assistance with transportation of recruits from the MEPS. Additionally, you will:
Prepare transportation orders.
Coordinate travel arrangements.
Conduct the pre-enlistment and/or the pre-accession interviews of applicants in order to gather information.
Verify data for final data processing of forms and records for entry into the military service.
Maintain records of orders; distributes copies of transportation orders and enlistment contracts.
Consolidate and input data into an automated web-based program.

Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
Employee may be required to work an occasional Saturday and/ or shift work (work before 0600 or after 1800 hours).
Employee will routinely be required to work unscheduled overtime to accommodate fluctuations in workload based on the daily mission requirements.
Employee may be required to perform occasional overnight travel as assigned.
This position requires the incumbent to be able to type a minimum of 40 words per minute.
Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Proficiency Required: This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors.
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes preparing and processing travel orders through an automated system; making travel arrangements for personnel; fingerprinting applicants and/or processing fingerprints electronically; interviewing applicants to obtain and verify data. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).

Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university. Additional information
Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.
You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship.
One year probationary period may be required.
Direct deposit of pay is required.
