Summary
The ideal candidate will be an exceptionally talented, knowledgeable, and motivated pharmacist with extensive experience with health-system pharmacy operations. The candidate must exemplify an understanding of medication safety standards, process improvement, education/training, and process improvement standards. The candidate must demonstrate a mastery of hospital experience and understand regulatory oversight.

Duties
Provides pharmaceutical guidance and expertise to program. Monitors and evaluates drug therapy for beneficial therapeutic outcome.
Serves as technical authority and resource by providing drug information to physicians, nurses and patients on commercial and investigational drugs being utilized and ensures up-to-date information is readily available.
Conducts clinical pharmacy research and actively collaborates with staff and clinical researchers in the design and implementation of complex investigational drug development and research protocols, including Phase 1, first in human studies.
Monitors active investigational studies in Clinical Unit to ensure that all FDA, ethical issues and Pharmacy Department policies concerning the use of investigational drugs are being followed.
Provides ongoing education in clinical setting and reviews and provides recommendations to others on pharmacy related issues where technical expertise is required.
Creates reports and participates in education pertaining to pharmacology/toxicology and use of investigational and legend drugs and provides literature when appropriate.
Responsible for the development, formulation and stabilization of suitable dosage forms of chemicals and drugs for investigational use in the Clinical Unit
participant care.
Manage a research pharmacy including USP 797 clean room maintenance requirements and guidelines, performing sterile and non-sterile compounding, and low to high-risk compounding specifications and formulations such as capsules and suspensions.

Qualifications
To qualify for the Pharmacist, GS-0660-14, you must meet the following qualification requirements:
Education Requirement
A doctoral degree in Pharmacy that is recognized by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
AND
Licensure Requirement An active, current license as a pharmacist in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States;
AND
You must have at least one year of professional pharmacy experience equivalent to at least the GS-13 level in the Federal Government obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks:
Providing advanced clinical and research pharmacy services in a medical or research facility.
Compounding, formulating, and managing sterile and investigational drug products.
Collaborating with physicians, clinical investigators, and research staff on drug therapy plans and research protocols.
Conducting audits, studies, evaluations, and quality assurance activities related to drug utilization and pharmacy operations.
Independently managing research pharmacy operations, including regulatory compliance, USP 797 requirements, staff training, and oversight.
You will receive credit for all experience material to the position, including experience gained in religious, civic, welfare, service, and organizational activities, regardless of whether you received pay.

This position is designated as an "emergency essential" position and the selected candidate will be considered an "emergency essential" employee and will be required to be available, ready, willing, and able to report for duty under all circumstances (e.g., inclement weather, government closings and holidays, lapses in appropriations, non-emergency and emergency situations) for operation 24 hours a day and 365 days per year coverage.
Based on your appointment, a one or two-year trial/probationary period may be required. A decision regarding your continued employment with NIH will be made as you near the end of this period.
