Summary
This position is Non-appropriated Fund (NAF) and will be assigned to the JBSA Fort Sam Houston Equestrian Center located in San Antonio, TX.
This is a flexible category position with no guaranteed hours, may work up to 40 hours per week. Scheduled as needed. Employee appointed to a flexible (intermittent)category position are not eligible for benefits.

Duties
Performs and/or assists other recreation assistants or specialist in the operation and maintenance of indoor and outdoor recreational facilities. Work alone or as a member of the work crew. Issues horses and/or mules to authorized patrons based on capabilities of riders. Assists in saddling and unsaddling horses before & after trail rides. Serves as the weekend trail guide. Feeds government and privately owned horses. As directed, conducts safety checks on equipment. Assist in maintaining the facility and equipment to include but not limited to stall cleaning. Duties will also include assisting in the front office, answering phone calls or taking payment for services provided. Also performs maintenance of grounds, weeding and mowing Equestrian Center grounds.

This position requires the incumbent to complete a background investigation with favorable results.
This position has a physical requirement which requires the incumbent to complete a favorable pre-employment physical. Must be able to lift and carry objects up to 50 lbs.
This position requires shift work to provide coverage on weekends, holidays or special situations.
This position requires the incumbent to have resided in the United States for 3 years and reside in the commuting area of the vacancy location.
This position has been identified as a Test Designated Position (TDP). The incumbent of this position will be subject to a pre-employment drug test. Must have a valid driver's license.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if the position allows for qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.
Qualifying Experience:
Must have practical knowledge of equines such as handling, riding and tacking & be familiar with the use of Western/English tack.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSA's):
You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas:
1. Equine Knowledge.
2. Customer Service.
3. Ability to safeguard and handle cash and skill in the use of Point of Sale (POS) system.

You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying.

U.S. Citizens and Non-U.S. Nationals who have resided in the U.S. Territory for three (3) or more consecutive years immediately preceding the start of Federal affiliation or a signed memorandum indicating the installation's decision on the 3-year residency requirement..

A probationary period may be required.
Pre-employment requirements must be satisfactorily met prior to Entrance on Duty (EOD).
