Summary The Staff Assistant is in the office of the Architect of the Capitol and is a key role which directly supports the Architect and Deputy Architect of the Capitol. This position will help establish and maintain the continuity for the Office of the Architect (OA), manage the daily administrative actions, and coordinate assigned projects. The Staff Assistant will serve as the trusted and confidential advisor that will take initiative to improve processes and procedures with little or no guidance. Learn more about this agency Duties In this prominent role, the Staff Assistant will possess the highest degree of diplomacy, resourcefulness and discretion in a rapidly evolving, customer-centric environment.  The Staff Assistant will leverage their organizational and analytical skills to thrive in this role and provide support through additional responsibilities that include: Designing, planning and conduct research on complex administrative issues under the guidance of an OA leader. In addition, screens inquiries, establishes suspense dates and refers to appropriate offices for response/resolution. Developing and maintaining relationships with AOC, Congressional Staff and external partners to manage projects and ensure projects are completed in an efficient manner. Creating or revising administrative standard operating procedures (SOPs) to support the operational workflow of the office. In addition, research and compile data and information to support the development of policies, procedures or reports. Coordinating external and internal meetings to ensure participants have the necessary details regarding the time, location, parking, and briefing materials and ensuring that senior staff members are briefed on matters to be considered before all meetings. Working collaboratively with the Chief of Staff and Deputy Chief of Staff, the Legislative Affairs Director and other stakeholders to create communication products that are accurate, formatted appropriately, are quality reviewed and disseminated on time.  Managing the Architects and/or the Deputy Architect schedule to include establish priorities, arranging commitments, rescheduling commitments or arranging for a representative to attend in the Architect’s stead. The ideal candidate is an energetic and politically savvy professional driven by common agency goals to help accomplish great things.  A dependable self-starter able to take initiative behind the scenes to improve processes and procedures and handle confidential matters with discretion.  A bachelor’s degree is desirable. Candidates for the GS-13 grade level must have at least 52 weeks of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-12) in the Federal service.
