Summary About the position: This position is Non-appropriated Fund (NAF) and will be assigned to the Child Development Center Shaw AFB. SC. Duties Assists cook in planning and preparing menus that meet USDA requirements. Shops for food items and other kitchen items as needed, Will assist ant the commissary with shopping. Maintains inventory of items on stack record cards. Informs cook when low on menu items. Prepares meats for cook, fixes sandwiches, and prepares salads, fruit and desserts. Places cooked food in dishes and serves, Washes and cleans kitchen equipment and eating area which includes tables, chairs and floors. Does minor cleaning jobs in the kitchen area and throughout the center. Duties to include cleaning cabinets, refrigerators, etc. Assists in planning and preparing for center outings Makes suggestions and recommendations for menu changes, assists in selecting food items that are USDA approved. Assists in maintain meal counts and production records for daily meal service. Attends training in food service and preparations. Completes prescribed Air Force training for cooks and food service workers. Works under direct supervision of the cook and Assistant Director. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if the position allows for qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Qualifying Experience: Be able to follow simple oral instructions, be able to use hand tools for cleaning and operate simple machines. Be skilled in doing tasks with several steps and must use judgement in sequencing tasks. Knowledge of sanitation standards in handling and serving food, and for cleaning equipment and work area is desirable. Be physically able to frequently lift of move objects weighing up to 40 pounds. Be able to continuously stand and walk, and frequently stoop, reach, push, pull, and bend for long periods of time. Be able to satisfactorily complete a pre-employment physical. Be able to obtain a Food Handler's certificate and/or complete food handlers training and satisfactory complete installation, state and national criminal background checks. Be able to satisfactorily complete a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI). You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Education Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does not allow for education substitution. FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying. Additional information Individual must fully meet qualification/eligibility/background requirements for this position. U.S. Citizens and Non-U.S. Nationals who have resided in the U.S. Territory for three (3) or more consecutive years immediately preceding the start of Federal affiliation or a signed memorandum indicating the installation's decision on the 3-year residency requirement. Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must be registered for Selective Service. Direct deposit is required. Satisfactorily complete an employment verification (E-Verify) check. A probationary period may be required. Pre-employment requirements must be satisfactorily met prior to Entrance on Duty (EOD). Payment of Permanent Change of Station (PCS) costs is not authorized, based on a determination that a PCS move is not in the Government's interest.
