Summary
This position is located at the 147th Attack Wing, Ellington Field AFB, Houston, TX. This is a National Guard Dual Status Technician position requiring military membership. The primary purpose of this position is to provide on/off aircraft equipment maintenance for the LO systems and structures
Texas is one of 9 states with NO state income tax.
Duties
As a COMPOSITE FABRICATOR (Title 32) with the Texas National Guard, your duties will include, but will not be limited to:
Improves, modifies, fabricates, and designs repairs for low observable assemblies, sub-assemblies, and components ensuring proper weight to strength ratios are met and maintains structural and low observable integrity requirements including associated aircraft structural composites. Removes, inspects, designs, and implements emergency repairs using various novel techniques or methods. Documents maintenance actions in applicable automated system and/or records. Advises and provides documents to associated engineers, overhauls, reinstalls, or adjusts irregular surfaces, control system components, assemblies/sub-assemblies, and specialized coatings. Identifies and discusses potential problems in new designs or maintenance methods and procedures with engineers and other originators, advises on improvements in repair and maintenance methods including application techniques. May attend meetings or working groups with engineers, contractors etc. to resolve problems and maintain awareness of current techniques and processes that may not be documented. Orders and turns in aircraft parts and assemblies. May serve as the primary worker responsible for monitoring the completion of assigned maintenance tasks.
Performs a variety of extensive evaluations of weapons systems using a variety of complex tools and assessment equipment to assess that the proper radar cross section (RCS) signature according to the associated technical order data, mission requirements and other policy regulations, instructions, and guidance. Inspections will be done on weapons system structure, LO coating, and LO materials. Evaluates operational deficiencies and records LO system damage types, specific multi-complex dimensions, and location plots using the automated maintenance systems related to the specific weapons system. Records RCS results and updates aircraft signature status following aircraft flights, at scheduled intervals, and/or after LO coating/structural maintenance and repair actions. Conducts audits of LO aircraft and associated signature management databases, ensuring that RCS signature reported accurately reflects aircraft physical status. Certifies integrity of signature management databases through verification, addition, and removal of audit data. Audits of weapons systems will be conducted utilizing applicable portable automated electronic devices to mark and record signature assessment damages.
Performs repair, application, and maintenance of corrosion preventatives and paints on aircraft, powered, and non-powered AGE (aerospace ground equipment). Identifies metal corrosion. Performs necessary testing to identify type of corrosion present by examination with magnifying equipment, chemical and mechanical methods. Treats aircraft engines in accordance with applicable technical publications. Identifies, blends, stores, controls, and disposes of hazardous materials such as acids, caustics, alcohols, solvents, cleaners, primers and surface coatings used for corrosion removal, treatment and protection in accordance with applicable directives. Removes corrosion by mechanical and chemical procedures to include use of portable powered (electric and pneumatic) sanders, buffers, brushes, bead blasters, vacuum cleaners, scrapers, grinders, acids, caustics, solvents, alcohols and other agents used in corrosion control processes. Treats metal with chemical procedures, such as pretreatments, to protect metal from oxidation. Performs functions such as pickling of metals to prepare for good bonding with primer coat of protective materials. Applies protective coatings, markings, and decals. Use conventional paint spray equipment, electrostatic spray equipment, brushes and special applicators when applying primers and surface coatings.
Collects, compiles, and records LO systems data for maintenance scheduling, statistical analysis, trending, and historical record. Performs data searches and reports findings as directed. Manages an array of related databases and spreadsheets to capture and catalog data elements for trending, information sharing working groups, and benchmarking. Responsible for documenting, obtaining, applying, securing, and protecting classified records, documents, hardware and software. Analyzes trends in deficiencies, provides engineers and other entities with devised repair procedures, performs prototype repair while providing instructions to other employees.

Appointment Factor(s): This is an Excepted Service dual status position that requires active membership in a compatible military assignment in the Texas Air National Guard (TXANG) and wear of the military uniform.

Military Requirements:
For Dual-Status Technician positions service affiliation under Title 32 USC 709 is required.
Military skill set is determined by AFSC/MOS requirements. Upon selection, individuals must be assigned to a compatible military AFSC/MOS in accordance with statutes and National Guard Bureau regulations and must obtain/maintain all requirements of the AFSC/MOS.

Specialized Experience:
To qualify at the WG-10 grade level your resume must include relevant experience with beginning and ending dates of employment reflecting experience or training demonstrating a practical thorough knowledge of the newest substances to recommend and/or select materials for prototype and one-time items. Composite Fabricators have an extensive knowledge of the properties and machining characteristics of a variety of composite or plastic materials. Extensive practical knowledge of the LO theory and practices with a direct influence to RCS reduction. Knowledge in adapting shop practices, methods, and procedures for use in unorthodox processes to fit new projects. Knowledge in establishing manufacturing procedures for newly developed compound materials by experimenting with various manufacturing techniques, curing times, irregular curvatures (surfaces), temperatures, and pressure. Knowledge in manufacturing master patterns and molds with numerous compound curves and intersecting compound angles. Knowledge in applying mathematics to calculate loads, fits, sizes, and weights not provided in instructions and blueprints to overcome design flaws and lay out more complex items. Broad knowledge in interactions between like and dislike chemical and other low observable materials to provide a coherent bond line action.
