Summary
This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
About the Position: Serves as a Nationally Registered or Virginia Certified Paramedic or EMT-Intermediate as part of the Medic Treatment Facility ambulance service while performing invasive advanced life support procedures. This position is located in Fort Eustis, Virgina.

- You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship.
- Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.
- One year trial/probationary period may be required.
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- A Personnel Security Investigation is required
- This position has specific initial background investigation and periodic re-verification requirements since its duties require interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age on a recurring basis.
- This position is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations. Applicants tentatively selected for this position will be required to sign a statement consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
- Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
- All Health Care Providers must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) training and certification that is sponsored or endorsed by the American Heart Association (AHA).
- Current Advanced Life Support or other advanced certification does not supersede BLS completion.
- A pre-placement medical examination is required.
- This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
- This position requires the ability to lift 95 lbs.
- This position requires to have and maintain a valid, unrestricted Paramedic or EMT-Intermediate Certification (National Registry or Virginia) at time of hire.
- This mission essential position required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations due to severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations (natural or man-made disaster).
- This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations. Employee shifts are rotated on a regularly scheduled basis.
- This position requires employee to wear a uniform and/or protective clothing.
- The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
- An N-95 respirator may be required for infectious contacts and the incumbent will be required to meet initial and periodic medical evaluations for respirator use based on current OSHA, DoD and Army Regulation guidelines.
- This position is designated as Mission Essential.
Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes applying basic and advanced emergency medical techniques, administering medications, performing medical interventions according to protocols, treating patients in accidents or emergencies, independently assessing patients to determine the best care approach; and operating emergency vehicles to transport patients to definitive care facilities. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).

- Incumbent is required to have and maintain a valid, unrestricted Paramedic or EMT-Intermediate Certification (National Registry or Virginia) at time of hire.
- Incumbent is required to have and maintain a current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Incumbent is required to have and maintain a current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
- Incumbent is required to have and maintain a current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
- Incumbent is required to obtain and maintain a state or DoD Emergency Vehicle Operations Course (EVOC) certification within six months of hire.
- Incumbent is required to obtain and maintain NIMS ICS 100, 200, 700, and 800 level training within six months of hire.
- Direct Deposit of Pay is required.
- Selection is subject to restrictions resulting from Department of Defense referral system for displaced employees.
