Summary This position is located at the West Point Golf Course. Incentives and Bonuses Incentives will not be paid. Area of Consideration This job is open to US Citizens and Non-Citizens residing within a 75-mile radius of West Point, NY. (Military Spouse Preference (MSP) and Involuntarily Separated Military Preference (ISMP) eligible candidates are included in the area of consideration.) Duties Maintains golf course operating heavy equipment such as lawn mowers, tractors, fork lifts, aerators, verti-cut machines, backhoes, front-end loaders, dump trucks, and rollers. Adjusts attachments to the equipment for proper level, angles, or depth, according to the work to be done and the type of equipment used. Duties include mowing, pushing, pulling, piling, or loading materials such as sand, gravel, or earth, to accomplish landscaping, filling, digging of ditches and holes, and hauling. Applies fertilizer, sow seeds, and sods needed areas. When required, waters different areas of golf course. Performs necessary repair and maintenance work on equipment. Performs other duties as assigned Requirements Conditions of employment Direct Deposit and Social Security Card is required. Meet qualification/eligibility/background requirements for this position. A one-year probationary period may be required. Satisfactorily complete an employment verification (E-Verify) check. A medical examination is required. This position requires heavy physical effort such as lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs, repeated reaching, bending, turning, moving hands, arms, and legs, strain from constant vibration from equipment, and operating over rough terrain. Must be at least 18 years of age. Must be available to work varying and/or rotating shifts to include early mornings, weekdays, weekends, holidays, and night duty. This position is dual compensation exempt. All GS and NAF employees whether full time or part time are eligible to apply for this position. Must possess a valid driver's license. A qualified candidate must possess the following: 1. Experience and training that furnish the knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to perform the duties of this position consistent with accepted practices of the trade; including skill in operating vehicles of the type described in the duties of the position. 2. Knowledge of vehicle safety regulations to determine when mechanical or operational problems indicate that vehicles are unsafe for operation. 3. Ability to use and maintain appropriate tools and equipment. 4. Ability to read, understand, and apply instructions and other materials related to the job. 5. Ability to do the work of the position under normal supervision. This experience must be reflected on your resume to be considered eligible for this position. Skills and Knowledge: Basic knowledge of the nature of the soil and features of the terrain to determine proper approach according to the condition of the surface and subsurface. Must be able to move equipment about in confined areas. Required to know the uses of the different sets of controls for operation of the equipment and attachments, and be skilled in handling these controls to perform the work. Must be able to handle different controls at the same time, requiring good hand, foot, and eye coordination. Education This job does not have an education qualification requirement. Additional information Note: Candidates with Special Qualifying Skills and Experience may be brought in higher than the Step 1 rate of pay, determined by the Hiring Manager. PCS Costs Payment of Permanent Change of Station (PCS) costs are not authorized based on a determination that a PCS move is not in the Government's interest. Allowances and Differentials This job falls under the Federal Wage Schedule (FWS) pay system. FWS employees earn overtime pay for working more than 8 hours in a day or more than 40 hours in a week -- whichever gives the employee more benefit. Regular full-time, regular part-time, and regularly scheduled flexible employees may receive Sunday premium pay for working on Sundays. Employees may also be eligible to receive extra pay if the majority of their scheduled hours falls after 3:00 PM. Non-foreign overseas allowances, cost of living (COLA), and differentials will not be paid, contingent upon eligibility.
