Summary
The Office of the United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut is seeking applications for an Assistant United States Attorney to serve in the Civil Division's Affirmative Civil Enforcement Unit.
This position is located in New Haven, Bridgeport, or Hartford, Connecticut.

Duties
The attorney selected will be assigned to the Civil Division's Affirmative Civil Enforcement (ACE) Unit and will investigate and litigate civil fraud cases brought under the False Claims Act. The ACE Unit handles cases involving all types of government program fraud, including a large docket of health care fraud cases. The ACE Unit also pursues civil fraud cases arising out of COVID relief programs, government contracts and grants, as well as drug diversion cases brought under the Controlled Substances Act.
The Civil Division in the District of Connecticut consists of four units. The Civil Division's Defensive Unit defends claims filed against the United States, including tort, medical malpractice, employment discrimination, immigration, and foreclosures. The Defensive Unit also defends claims brought against individual federal employees (Bivens claims). As noted above, the ACE Unit pursues claims involving all types of government program fraud. The Asset Forfeiture Unit coordinates asset forfeiture matters for the district and litigates asset forfeiture cases. Finally, the Financial Litigation Unit is responsible for collecting debts owed to the United States.
Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.

Residency Requirements: Assistant United States Attorneys generally must reside in the district to which he or she is appointed or within 25 miles thereof. See 28 U.S.C. 545 for district-specific information.

Qualifications
Preferred Qualifications: Applicants should have excellent writing and oral communication skills, strong character, dedication, work ethic, and the ability to work well with others and independently.
Required Qualifications: Applicants must possess a J.D. Degree and be an active member of the bar (any U.S. jurisdiction).
United States citizenship is required.
Proof of active bar membership is required.
You must meet all qualification requirements upon the closing date of this announcement.

Salary Information: Assistant United States Attorney's pay is administratively determined based, in part, on the number of years of professional attorney experience. The range of basic pay is:
New Haven, CT: $90,444 to $197,100 which includes 37.95% locality pay
Bridgeport, CT: $90,444 to $197,100 which includes 37.95% locality pay
Hartford, CT: $86,596 to $197,100 which includes 32.08% locality pay
***The salary for this position is capped at $151,600.00 for the first year.***

Relocation Expenses: Relocation expenses will not be authorized.
Travel: Occasional travel within and outside the District will be required.
