Mobility Technician - PCU

POSITION SUMMARY

The Mobility Technician performs safe patient handling and mobility tasks under the direction of the physical therapy and nursing teams following the Safe Patient Handling and Mobility Procedure Guidelines. The Mobility Technician does not perform patient care tasks requiring a license.

PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITES

1. Completes all patient handling tasks assigned daily to include assisting with repositioning, transferring, toileting, and ambulating patients with the use of assistive devices or patient handling equipment as indicated.
2. Communicates with physical therapy and nursing teams for guidance and provides updates to the team(s) as appropriate.
3. Tracks and completes mobility tasks with emphasis on out–of–bed and Ambulation.
4. Assists patients with basic range of motion exercises.
5. Identifies current BMAT level and communicates with nursing.
6. Responds to patient call lights.
7. Performs an average of 20 patient contacts per day.
8. Documents in medical record as required with correct time stamp.
9. Ensures patient handling equipment is safe and working correctly prior to patient use. Ensures correct sizing of slings and equipment.
10. Maintains an awareness of inventory of all patient handling equipment and supplies.
11. Reports any supply or equipment concerns to manager/supervisor.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
• Work Experience: Previous patient care or customer service experience preferred.
• Certification: American Heart Association Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider upon hire and maintain.
• Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:
  
  • Must be able to speak/understand written and verbal instructions in the English language.
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal communication skills to work effectively with patients of varying levels of understanding.
  • Ability to effectively manage time to complete required duties within timeframe.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS – Moderate

• Physically agile; may require walking, standing, running, bending, stooping, kneeling, climbing, or crouching frequently.
• May occasionally include lifting or moving objects up to 50 pounds, with or without assistance.
• May require moving in different positions to accomplish tasks in various environments including tight and confined spaces, including reaching out and above shoulders, or overhead.
• May lift, turn, pull, push, or ambulate people and/or equipment with or without assistance up to 90% of the assigned shift.
• May be exposed to inside and outside environments with varied temperatures, air quality, lighting, and/or low to loud noise.
• May require working with biohazards such as blood/body fluids and airborne particles following OSHA and CDC guidelines.
• Communicating with others to exchange information.
• Visual acuity and hand–eye coordination to perform tasks.
• Workspace may vary from open to confined, onsite or remote.
• May require travel to various facilities within and beyond county perimeter; may require use of personal vehicle.
