Summary THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. This National Guard position is for a MATERIALS HANDLER (SSC) (TITLE 32), Position Description Number NGD1909000 and is part of the TN ARMY National Guard. This vacancy is covered by Association of Civilian Technicians (ACT), Chapter 103 (Volunteer Chapter). Duties As a Materials Handler (SCC), WG-6907-07, you will serve as a Small Shop Chief by planning and laying out work to be accomplished in the shop which is then completed by the individual and lower graded worker(s); possess the knowledge and skills found at the journeyman level as well as those required for planning, accomplishing and maintaining a functional shop maintenance program; independently determine appropriate maintenance procedures such as how and when the work should be accomplished, estimate manpower, equipment and material requirements; devise and maintain all program plans and records, is skilled in surveillance and troubleshooting techniques, and is able to determine maintenance/repair procedures needed without benefit of technical supervisory guidance; plan, organize and direct shop maintenance programs/procedures under general supervision; determine approaches, methods and courses of action required to accomplish the mission of the shop in an effective and efficient manner; may provide recommendations and input to the supervisor concerning personnel actions such as performance appraisals, awards, position description changes, disciplinary actions, leave, etc.; perform the same type and level of work as performed within the unit; perform other duties as assigned. Requirements Conditions of employment NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED. This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard, required prior to the effective date of placement. Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform. Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment. Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the National Guard in the military grade listed in this announcement. Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service. Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation. May be required to successfully complete a trial period. Participation in direct deposit is mandatory. This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position. Irregular and/or overtime (compensatory) hours may be required to support operational requirements or contingencies or may be required to work hours outside of the normal duty day. For positions requiring the operation of motor vehicles, candidates must have a valid state driver’s license for the state in which they live or are principally employed. For positions requiring a security clearance of (Secret or Top Secret) the applicant must possess or be able to obtain a clearance within one year of appointment. Acceptance of a Federal position may terminate Tricare Reserve Select eligibility. Preplacement Medical Requirements: Selectee will be required to undergo medical testing, at the expense of the government, prior to beginning employment. Medical tests are used to determine fitness and eligibility for employment. Qualifications Military Grades: E-4 through E-5 GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Must have experience or training which demonstrates the ability to compare item identification against receiving reports and issue request forms; skill in using hand trucks, dollies, and other equipment to move stock; ability to use hammers, pliers, and other hand tools; and to follow oral and written instructions. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must have 12 months experience performing inventory and inspections to determine serviceability of stocked items; experience in interpreting and applying written instructions, reference materials, publications, and manuals; experience in setting up and rotating storage locations considering factors such as life expectancy, available space, product turnover, etc. Education Education Requirement: None Substitution of Education to qualify for this position is not available.
