Duties
Performs daily, weekly and other periodic cleaning tasks in offices, (production, administration and professional areas), classrooms, recreation areas and other assigned areas.
Performs sweeping, dry mopping, scrubbing, waxing, and polishing floors, using brooms, mops, lightweight vacuum cleaners, floor scrubbers, and buffers.
Responsible for replacing drain covers and screens on drainpipes and sweeps all windowsills.
Responsible for safeguarding and proper use of supplies, tools, and equipment; and for daily maintenance and cleanliness of equipment used.
Trains new employees, helping them carry out the duties assigned, instructing them in work methods and how to use supplies.

Selectee must pass all preemployment requirements prior to appointment.
Selectee must undergo a background investigation for Suitability.
Selectee must pass a physical examination prior to appointment.
Strength test may be required.
Selectee may be required to serve a one-year probationary period.
Physical Effort: Requires moderate physical effort. Delivery activity involves walking from place to place for short periods of time. Prolonged standing, walking, stooping, bending, stretching, reaching above the shoulder, and climbing.
Physical Effort: Requires moderate lifting is required for objects weighing up to 80 pounds. Incumbent is required to have good eye-hand coordination and proficient vision. A moderate amount of hand, wrist, and arm movements is involved.
Working Conditions: Duties are performed in both dimly lit and well-lighted, ventilated area. Works inside and outside with shorter periods outside in inclement weather.
Working Conditions: The incumbent is exposed to dirt, disagreeable odors and possible skin irritation from cleaning solutions. Work is on tin roofs, cement floors, parking lots, ladders, catwalks, and steel platforms.
Working Condition: Serious injury could result from falling, moving equipment, electrical shocks, or burns from chemical solution work for acceptability of results.
Qualifications
To qualify for the Printing Plant Worker (Custodial Worker), KX-3566-3, you must meet the following requirements:
Applicants must meet the following Screen-Out element to be considered for this position. Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which appears as question 1 in the online questionnaire. If your knowledge and ability is not sufficient, you will receive no further consideration. The screen-out element for this position is: Ability to do the work of a Printing Plant Worker (Custodial Worker) without more than normal supervision which includes the ability to:
Use a variety of cleaning and sanitizing solutions.
Follow directions, work with others, work under pressure and meet deadlines
Perform industrial cleaning in maintaining restrooms, offices, storerooms, corridors, stairways and other assigned areas.
Sweep, dry mop, scrub, wax, and polish floors
Use brooms, mops, lightweight vacuum cleaners and lightweight floor scrubbers and buffers.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date (06/11/2026) of this announcement to be considered.

Education may not be used in lieu of training, abilities and screenout experience.

The GPO offers Transit subsidy for commuters using public transportation (Metro Bus/Rail, MARC, VRE, etc.).
Background Investigation:
To ensure the accomplishment of its mission, the GPO requires every employee to be reliable and trustworthy. To meet those standards, all selected applicants must undergo and successfully completed a background investigation for a Suitability. This review could include financial issues such as delinquency in the payment of debts, child support and/or tax obligations, as well as certain criminal offenses and illegal use or possession of drugs. Depending on the type of background investigation required, the security process may take between 6 weeks to 12 months.
The Agency may rescind the tentative offer if the candidate is unable to obtain an interim clearance.
