Summary You will serve as a PHYSICAL SCIENCE TECHNICIAN in the Navy Drug Screening Laboratory, Great Lakes, Illinois of NAVDRUGLAB GREAT LAKES IL. Learn more about this agency Duties You will process forensic specimens by receiving samples, verifying all documentation, and entering data into a laboratory information system. You will maintain a strict forensic chain of custody by precisely labeling samples, inserting quality controls, and preparing all related documentation. You will identify and document any sample discrepancies using detailed coding systems and will separate specific samples for advanced confirmation testing. You will ensure a safe and orderly work environment by complying with all safety regulations, maintaining lab cleanliness, and restocking supplies as needed. Qualifications GS-05 level: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-04 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Utilizing laboratory operations, procedures, and record systems; 2) Measuring liquid and liquid transfers using laboratory equipment; 3) Maintaining sample identification and inventory control using manual methods or computer technology; and 4) Following laboratory requirements and standardized operational procedures. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment Education Applicants may substitute the following education for the required experience, provided it demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to do the work of the position GS-05 level: Successful completion of a 4-year (120 semester hours) course of study above high school leading to a bachelor's degree with courses directly related to the position (a) with major study in an appropriate field of physical science, or (b) that included at least 24 semester hours in any combination of courses such as physical science, engineering, or any branch of mathematics, except financial and commercial mathematics. This education must be obtained at an accredited college or university. COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be combined to meet the total qualification requirements.
