Summary

We expect to fill 1 vacancy; additional positions may be filled from this announcement if they become available.
Duties
Performs on-the-ground surveys of wildlife habitat and prepares reports and makes recommendations to management on the findings.
Will provide information and prepare preliminary analysis of impacts on wildlife for inclusion in environmental documents.
Conducts compliance checks on minerals exploration, development, and operations, realty actions, and range improvement projects to evaluate impacts and assure conformation with mitigation measures.
Reviews watershed and range improvement project proposals for compatibility with wildlife needs and recommends to Biologist’s construction specifications or modifications needed to safeguard or enhance wildlife habitat quality.
Enters and retrieves data from automated databases.

Qualifications

To Qualify for GS-7: You must possess one (1) full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-06 level that is equivalent in difficulty and complexity as indicated by the following examples: Knowledge of processes, methods, and procedures associated with aid level duties sufficient to resolve a variety of wildlife related problems when performing wildlife surveys. Practical knowledge of the basic theories and practices of wildlife management combined with practical experience sufficient to resolve wildlife related issues. -OR- Education: One full year of graduate-level education in a field related to the position (wildlife). - OR- Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of specialized experience and graduate-level education that meets the qualification requirements. Graduate level education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Physical Demands: Work requires some physical exertion such as bending and walking in terrain that is rough, rocky, mountainous and densely vegetated. Required to lift and carry equipment necessary to efficiently perform the work of the position, and to provide for personal comfort and safety. This can include tools, personal protective equipment, food and water for extended periods of work away from vehicles.
Work Environment: Office work is performed in an adequately lighted, ventilated, cooled and heated area. During fieldwork is subject to cuts and bruises, extreme and adverse weather conditions, and injuries and discomforts from pests and animals. Employee will adhere to all safety rules.

These positions are temporary and are expected to last for up to 6 months. These positions have no promotion potential, if you want to be considered for a higher grade you must apply for the higher grade.
