Faculty position employed by the University of Texas at Tyler School of Medicine, practicing in UT
Health East Texas facilities.UT Tyler School of Medicine is seeking a Full Time Trauma Physician to
join the fast growing family of UT Health East Texas hospitals and clinics.About the Position:
Level 1 Trauma Center Join a group consisting of five trauma/critical care surgeons with plans to
expand to 6–7. Call shifts for Trauma (includes coverage of the Trauma ICU) 8-9, primary in house
12 h shifts per month and 8-9, 12h secondary (backup) trauma call shifts from home. Call for
Emergency Gen Surgery is required and are separate, 2-3, 24 hr shifts per month Both services are
resident staffed and there is also 24/7 midlevel coverage for the trauma service/trauma
ICU.Responsibilities Include: Critical Care and surgical management of all types of trauma
patients including neurotrauma and complex, critically ill general surgery ICU patients Teaching
responsibilities for residents and medical students (third year clerkship students)Requirements
include: MD or DO: Board-certified or board-eligible candidates required General Surgery
Residency completion required from an accredited ACGME program Fellowship in Surgical Critical
Care or Trauma completion required from an accredited program featuring certification in Critical
Care Fellowship in Acute Care Surgery preferred The trauma / critical care service will cover
day and night shifts 365 days a year for these high-volume and high-acuity hospitals. The typical
expectation is 16 shifts per month. Experience in laparoscopic or robotic surgery is preferred
Academic affiliation with UT Tyler School of Medicine, including general surgery residency program

Tyler School of Medicine is the first medical school in East Texas and the seventh in The University
of Texas System. Its mission is to train future healthcare professionals to embrace responsibility
for the unique needs of rural and hard-to-reach communities and populations, particularly those in
East Texas. The school offers a robust Graduate Medical Education program, with 20 residency and
fellowship training programs, enabling graduates to gain specialized skills in areas such as family
medicine, internal medicine, neurology, psychiatry, surgery, and anesthesia. Additionally, UT
Tyler’s Master of Biotechnology program provides students with an interdisciplinary curriculum that
emphasizes medical research and biotechnology innovation, preparing them for careers in medical
research, diagnostics and therapeutic development. Construction is currently underway on a
five-story, 248,000-square-foot Medical Education Building (MEB) in Tyler’s Midtown District.
Connected by a skybridge to UT Health Tyler, the MEB will support interdisciplinary education for
medical students and resident training. It will also aid as part of a medical education program
expansion throughout the UT Health East Texas Health System. The building is scheduled for

providers to cultivate a new generation of physicians prepared to improve healthcare outcomes and
