Summary About the Position: This position falls under Defense Health Agency at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth, Directorate of Nursing and requires general experience with progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work such as performing any of the following; assisting customers, utilizing a computer, utilizing electronic health record programs and charting applications and maintaining files electronically or hard copy. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation Learn more about this agency Duties Monitors automated healthcare reporting system for new patient orders for labs, diet changes, radiology exams, and consults, and informs appropriate Registered Nurse upon receipt. Implements downtime procedures by using paper for charting, order transcription, diet, radiology, consult order and transmit to the appropriate area of the facility. Transfer, and discharge of patients, assembles all paperwork for patient's record into sequential and chronological order, upon receipt. Performs routine patient check-in/checkout procedures using computerized systems. Scans and files outpatient records into automated computer system to create electronic record. Records telephone messages pertaining to such things as detailed laboratory reports, X-ray and test results. Receives visitors and phone calls to the unit. Takes appropriate measures to ensure patient/family members/visitor confidentiality and privacy during interactions. Assists in the orientation of new staff members to the unit. Prepares correspondence, messages, and various other unit-specific reports using computer systems. Performs other administrative, clerical, and record-keeping tasks related to patient visits to facilitate efficiency of care using unit-specific guidelines. Requirements Conditions of employment Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation. This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health ability or fitness. This position requires Basic Life Support training certification from, or in accordance with, the American Heart Association and American Red Cross. Current Advanced Life Support or other advanced certification does not supersede BLS completion. This position requires to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations. This position has been designated "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations. This position is designated Tier 3, Non-Critical Sensitive, Moderate Risk and requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance Level as a condition of employment. This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is therefore subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations. This is a drug tested designated position. Immunization screening is required. Qualifications Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. General experience is progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled, such as performing any of the following, assisting customers, utilizing a computer, utilizing electronic health record programs and charting applications and maintaining files electronically or hard copy. OR Education: Two years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of by 60. Add the two percentages. Education FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
