This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for DIB & MRTFB to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

About the Position: Serves as a working leader over ammunition inspectors with the Joint Munitions Command located at Crane Army Ammunition Activity, Crane, IN.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must obtain and maintain a SECRET Security Clearance.
  • Must obtain and maintain a valid state driver's license and complete Accident Avoidance Training in order to operate government owned/leased vehicles and equipment
  • (for example, various forklifts) of the type and capacities determined by the supervisor as necessary for the accomplishment of the duties of the position.
  • Required to attend selected formal training courses and perform occasional travel to complete work assignments and training.
  • Position is covered by the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Program. Incumbent is required to sign a DA Form 5019 (Condition of Employment for Certain Civilian Positions Identified
  • Critical Under the Department of the Army Drug-Free Federal Workplace Program) and must pass urinalysis testing, as required prior to appointment and periodically thereafter.
  • Position is subject to the Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968, which makes it a felony for anyone convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence to ship, transport, possess, or receive firearms or ammunition.
  • Civilian personnel of the Dept. of Defense are not exempt from this provision. Therefore, as a condition of employment, selectee will be required to sign a form acknowledging understanding of this provision.
  • Must be certified by requirements outlined in AMC-R 350-4 - Training and Certification Program for Personnel Working in Ammunition Operations, and CAAA regulation 350-1 - Explosive Safety Certification Program.
  • Must be able to lift and carry items weighing up to 60 lbs.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Ammunition Inspector Leader without more than normal supervision. Experience working in ammunition operations interpreting the specific application of established inspection criteria and defect classification; I have used guides, instruments, tools and testing methods to inspect conventional and nonconventional munitions; I have handled and destroyed a variety of explosives, ammunition, or propellants by detonation and/or burning while following procedures specific to the particular item being destroyed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
  • Physical Efforts: Work assignments involve standing, stooping, bending, and walking. Lifts and carries items weighing up to 60 lbs.
  • Working Conditions: Work is performed both inside and outside. Buildings have cement floors and may be unheated. Occasionally work is of a dirty, greasy nature and there is noise from production machinery. Incumbent is occasionally exposed to weather extremes and occasionally must wear full protective clothing when exposed to chemicals and gases. Works in close proximity to areas where explosive items are being inspected, renovated, demilitarized, modified, transported, and/or stored.
