Summary The purpose of this position is to plan and carry out a comprehensive aquatics program to include all aquatics activities to meet the needs of eligible patrons. The incumbent is primarily responsible for providing administrative, technical, and operational support and expertise on all matters pertaining to the Aquatics programs at NAS Lemoore. Irregular working hours may be required to include early shift, late shift, evenings, weekends and holidays when the need arises. May be required to lift and carry swimmers varying in weight and size. Must be ready to respond to emergency situations at all times. Qualifications Knowledge that enables the employee to competently and independently carry out aquatic's programs through the proper application of principles, concepts, and techniques of recreation to specific needs of the community to be served. Must possess current nationally recognized aquatics (Water Safety Instructor-WSI, Lifeguard Instructor, CPR for the Professional Rescuer and Emergency Response through the American Red Cross or equivalent) certifications. A Certified Pool Operator certification is preferred or required within the first 90 days of employment. Must have an in-depth knowledge of activities, interest and needs of the military community to plan and conduct programs which will attract maximum number of participants. Knowledge of various specialty equipment, both resale and fixed assets to ensure quality material exists to enhance programs. Knowledge of the roles of the lifeguards during a coordinated rescue scene for the safety of the rescuers and the victim. Knowledge of and ability to conduct pool chemical testing, adjust chemical imbalances, and document the results. Skill in planning and executing a comprehensive aquatics program that includes a variety of aquatics activities and/or individual, which meets the needs of the participating community. Skill in the use of Microsoft Office Programs (e.g., Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook) and other operating systems used in the program area. Ability to develop and effectively deliver presentations and/or training. Ability to communicate effectively in English both orally and in writing and follow verbal and writing instructions. Ability to analyze and prepare clear, concise and technically sound reports related to work within the Branch. Skill in effectively organizing and utilizing available community resources. Ability to perform the full range of supervisory duties. Education Knowledge of aquatics and related aquatics safety programs that would be obtained with a minimum of 3 years of progressive experience in aquatics programs or have a 4-year undergraduate degree in Health, Fitness, Recreation or related field. Additional information Executive Order 12564 requires a Federal workplace free of illegal drugs. All individuals involved in the provision of child care services on a Department of Navy (DON) installation or in a DON-sanctioned program must complete the Installation Records Check (IRC). The IRC includes a check of the Substance Abuse Rehabilitation Program (SARP) records in the Alcohol and Drug Management Information Tracking System (ADMITS) database, a check of the Family Advocacy Program (FAP) records in the Fleet and Family Support Management Information System (FFSMIS), and an installation security/base check via the Navy Justice Information System (NJIS) database and/or other law enforcement systems. This information will be used to determine suitability for the applicant in accordance with criteria for automatic and presumptive disqualifiers, per DoDI 1402.05. Per Department of Defense Instruction (DoDI) 1402.05. Background Checks on Individuals in DoD Child Care Services Programs, incumbents will be automatically disqualified for a conviction in either civilian or military court (to include any general, special, or summary court-martial conviction or if they received non-judicial punishment [under Article 15 or chapter 47 of Title 10, U.S.C]) for any of the following: a sexual offense, any criminal offense involving a child victim, or a felony drug offense. Additionally, the incumbent will be automatically disqualified if he/she has been held to be negligent in a civil adjudication or administrative proceeding concerning the death of or serious injury to a child or dependent person entrusted to the individual's care. Non-U.S. citizens with fewer than three years of recent residential history in the U.S. may be determined ineligible for employment. Some positions have special requirements. Selectee may be required to complete a one (1) year probationary period. Participation in Direct Deposit/Electronic Fund Transfer within the first 30 days of employment is required.
