Summary This position is located in the Food and Beverage Division of the Morale, Welfare and Recreation Department in the Navy Region Southwest. The primary purpose of this position is to serve as bartender, mixing and serving a limited variety of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages as well as leading other bartenders ensuring readiness for work. Learn more about this agency Duties Mixes beverages by combining and proportioning pre-mixed packages or a limited number of ingredients such as liquors, soda, water, beer and wine in accordance with standard recipes and serves to patrons. Ensures Bartenders (NA-3) are ready for work, providing instructions and information from facility management. Participates in training of Bartenders and Bar Assistants. Assists with scheduling of bar personnel, keeping management informed of work progress, assignments, inventory, and work areas of concern. Receives orders from patrons, computes charges, collects appropriate amounts from patrons and/or waiters and makes change in accordance with established cash handling procedures. Prepares daily activity reports and ensures funds are either properly secured and/or deposited in accordance with cash handling instructions. Ensures adequate stock levels, arranges and displays bottled goods and glasses about the bar. Replenishes stock and notifies supervisor when supplies and stock are low. Ensures that supplies and equipment are economically used and waste is kept to a minimum. Assists with inventories and ensuring prices are accurate. May be required to calibrate the bar as required. Washes, cleans and dries bar glasses, utensils and equipment. Ensure working area iS maintained according to appropriate sanitation and safety standards to include, but not limited to sweeping and mopping floors, cleaning sinks, walls, cabinets etc. Responsible for complying with all safety, fire and sanitation rules and regulations. Requirements Conditions of employment Must successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check. Any discrepancies must be resolved as a condition of employment. Must meet federal suitability requirements including successful completion of background investigation. Must walk or stand for prolonged periods of time. Uses dolly to transport beer kegs. Work schedule is flexible and will vary as required by the needs of the program to include night, weekend, and holiday shifts as well as split days off. May have or obtain and maintain the following certification within 90 days of hire: Food Handlers and/or C.A.R.E (Controlling Alcohol Risks Effectively). Frequent light to moderate lifting and carrying objects weighing 5 to 15 pounds, pushing and pulling objects weighing 10 to 20 pounds and occasionally lifting up to and over 40 pounds. Must meet minimum state age requirements to prepare/serve alcohol. Qualifications The incumbent is required to have the knowledge and skill to mix and serve beverages from a bar that is limited to a few varieties and brands of liquor, soda, beer, and wine. Some pre-mixed beverages, such as daiquiris, are served; however, beverages of an exotic variety are not mixed and served. Must present a fine sense of customer relations and service. Must have the ability to recognize intoxicated or unruly patrons and to resolve the problem or seek assistance if needed. Knowledge of cash handling skills, ability to calculate and use basic arithmetic. As a working leader must be able to instruct and demonstrate proper techniques and have the ability to relay information in a clear manner. Education A high school diploma or GED is preferred.
