Duties
Perform full range of advanced practice nursing care duties for patients requiring psychiatric/behavioral health services.
Perform psychiatric intakes, evaluate new patients, gather histories, discuss goals with patients, and implement mutually agreed upon solutions.
Prescribe medications, educate patients about risks and benefits, probe for side effects, and monitor progress.
Participate with other medical staff in interpreting and evaluating continuing changes in direct patient care, conflicting requirements, or technological development in the medical field.
Maintain appropriate records using a computerized record keeping and coding system.
Present patient cases and classes for patient care conferences and academic institutions.

Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
This position has been designated "Mission Essential".
Employees assigned to a medical treatment facility are required to be screened for applicable immunizations or pre-existing immunity based on occupational risk, regardless of job series.
This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination.
This is a TERM position NTE 2 years.
This is an obligated position. You will be asked to sign an agreement acknowledging that you are aware of the obligation and willing to be displaced under reduction in force procedures upon the return of the former incumbent.
Applicants must be able to fulfill credentialing requirements and obtain and maintain appropriate/relevant clinical privileges.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Basic Requirement for ADVANCED PRACTICE NURSE (PRACTITIONER/CLINICAL/PSYCHIATRIC):
Degree: A graduate or higher level Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner degree from an accredited educational program in the area of expertise or specialty indicated by the position. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)
Degree from Foreign Nursing School: A degree from a Foreign Nursing School. Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools.
Licensure: A current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States; and you must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination.
Additional License Requirements for Advanced Practice Nurse Positions: Applicants for Advanced Practice Nurse positions must be licensed or registered by a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States in the clinical specialty required by the position - Psychiatric/Mental Health Nurse Practitioner.
Exemption: You are exempt from the basic requirements above if you are a current federal employee occupying a position in the 0610 occupational series and have been continuously employed in this occupational series since September 27, 2017 or before. Applicants claiming this exemption must meet the requirement below. Note: You will be required to provide appropriate documentation to the respective Human Resources Office to validate your status. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Specialized Experience: One year of professional nursing experience which includes diagnosing psychiatric illnesses, prescribing medications, and performing psychiatric evaluations. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade level (GS-11).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone - no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
Education
FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university. Male applicants born after December 31, 1959 must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.

Direct Deposit of Pay is required.
