Duties
This position is located in the Office of Protection Services at the National Gallery of Art, the Office of Protection Services is responsible for safeguarding collections, visitors, staff, facilities, and information. Protection Services consist of five program areas: Security Operations, Risk Management, Technical Services, Administration, and Identification Section. This position manages a weapons training program including curriculum writing, maintaining the latest training techniques and acting as the primary weapons trainer.
Duties for this position include:
Serve as the primary armorer for AOP ensuring that firearms are within factory specifications and service and maintenance files are kept for each weapon. Maintain accountability of and ensures all supplies required for the safe conduct of range live fire, ansd for the cleaning and maintenance of weapons on hand.
Establish and maintain a variety of training records, including files of training materials. Review and update records and files to ensure bi-annual and annual certifications are met in complainace with policy and to monitor and document the progress of officers amd firearms instructors.
Conduct research on emerging firearms technology, latest best practices and techniques to enhance instructional knowledge and skill. Coordinate, set up, maintain and manage weapon training ranges and other law enforcement training areas. Develop a schedule and notification process for personnel required to attened training, closely coordinating with supervisors.
Design and deliver a weapons training program for new officers, annual re-qualifications, remediation and use of force. The program and courses taught cover subject matter which involves highly specialized knowledge and skill in the handling and use of a variety types of firearms and the accompaying tactics for their usage.
Develop program and course material including detailed lesson plans which cover: the instructional objectives to be accomplished; the measurement of these objectives; the methods of instruction; the necessary aids to instruct; a detailed outline narrative of instruction covered; any space or personnel considerations; and a detailed outline narrative of instruction and evaluation criteria.

Qualifications
Specialized Experience Statement: Candidates must possess at least one year of specialized experience, equivalent in responsibility to the GS-11 level in the Federal service or private sector. Specialized experience for this position includes: Instructing on the use of firearms and firearm safety; Developing curriculum related to firearms and firearms safety; and organizing firing ranges and serving as the point of contact for person in charge of weapons.

YOU MUST BE A FEDERAL, STATE, OR NATIONAL RIFLE ASSOCIATION CERTIFIED LAW ENFORCEMENT FIREARMS INSTRUCTOR.
YOU MUST ALSO HAVE OR BE ABLE TO MAINTAIN CERTIFICATION AS A RANGE SAFETY OFFICER WITHIN SIX MONTHS OF EMPLOYMENT.
YOU MUST BE ABLE TO OBTAIN AND MAINTAIN ARMORER CERTIFICATION WITHIN SIX MOTHS OF EMPLOYMENT.
YOU MUST ALSO HAVE A VALID DRIVER'S LICENSE.
THIS POSITION IS SUBJECT TO THE LAUTENBERG AMENDMENT REQUIREMENTS.
