Summary This position is located in the Reserve Fleets, Office of Ship Operations, Office of the Deputy Associate Administrator for Federal Sealift, Office of the Associate Administrator for Strategic Sealift, Maritime Administration (MARAD). NOTE:  Given our continuing need for professionals in this field we will do monthly reviews and referrals of applications on a monthly basis the final review occurring after August 21, 2026. Learn more about this agency Duties As a Preservation Servicer, you will: Regularly inspect shipboard coatings and failed coating remediation involving scaling, scraping, and chipping. Perform vessel maintenance through topside housekeeping on non-retention vessels including sweeping and trash removal. Provide deck maintenance and repair, including of exterior surfaces, and surface preparation and recoating of failed areas aboard retention vessels and Fleet service craft. Assist other Fleet production tasks, such as ship arrivals, departures, and mooring as needed. Requirements Conditions of employment You must be a U.S.Citizen and eligible for consideration. DRUG TESTING: Tentatively selected candidates are required to undergo urinalysis in accordance with DOT 3910.1D entitled "Drug and Alcohol-Free Departmental Workplace", which includes testing for marijuana. Marijuana is legal in some states, however it’s still illegal at the federal level. Therefore, if selected for the position you will be required to submit to a pre-employment/pre-appointment drug test, you will also be subject to Random Drug Testing. PROBATIONARY PERIOD: You must complete a one-year probationary period (unless already completed). DEU REQUIREMENTS: Applicants selected under delegated examining procedures may be required to successfully complete a one-year probationary period (unless already completed).  Qualifications Qualifications for the position are based on the  training, experience, or other requirements that determine which applicants would be able to perform satisfactorily in the position to be filled. To qualify for the WG-07, your experience should include experience equal or equivalent to the following: Ability and willingness to learn how to perform general housekeeping onboard vessels.
