Summary This position is located in the Project Engineering and Design section of the Engineering Service at the Fayetteville NC VA Coastal Health Care System, in Fayetteville, NC. The position involves coordinating, technical overview, and inspection of construction projects and programs, as well as other technical assignments involving application of engineering principles using judgment and accepted engineering design and construction practices. Learn more about this agency Duties ***THIS IS NOT A VIRTUAL POSITION, YOU MUST LIVE WITHIN OR BE WILLING TO RELOCATE WITHIN A COMMUTABLE DISTANCE OF THE DUTY LOCATION*** Duties may include, but are not limited to the following: Assists engineers and technicians in the performance of difficult facility engineering design projects involving the repair, maintenance, or modernization of equipment, systems, or structures of moderate scope and complexity. Responsible for customer interface, definition of requirements, and development of designs, plans, and specifications for facility projects. Participates in engineering surveys and initiates, formulates and adapts design plans, specifications. Routinely provides original detailed drawings utilizing AutoCAD 2010 or newer computer system to implement the finished product. Monitors and maintains the AutoCAD Drawing Library, ensuring that preliminary drawings, tracings, and sketches as related to project assignments are maintained in a systematic manner, numerically and chronologically. Ensures record drawings are maintain for all station structures and grounds, working with CAD staff and utilizing AutoCAD programs. Prepares space requirements, drawings, layouts, and plans for proposed additions, improvements, alterations, modifications, repairs, and equipment installations, utilizing written specifications, photographs, sketches, and models. Performs other related duties as assigned. Qualifications TO QUALIFY FOR THIS POSITION AT THE GS-9 LEVEL YOU MUST MEET THE FOLLOWING CRITERIA: SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Have at least one (1) full year of specialized experience that equipped me with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of this position, and that is typically in or related to the work of this position. To be creditable, this experience must have been equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-8) in the Federal Service. Technician experience includes supervising, leading or performing work involving applying a practical knowledge of the (1) methods and techniques of engineering or architecture and (2) construction, application, properties, operations, and limitations of engineering systems, processes, structures, machinery, devices and materials. Qualifying specialized experience includes technical work in: drafting, surveying construction estimating, physical science, mathematics, aerospace, architecture, chemicals, electrical or mechanical systems, mining, petroleum, or nuclear systems. Experience in a trade or craft may be credited as specialized experience when the work provided intensive knowledge of engineering principles, techniques, methods, and precedents. Examples are trade positions with substantial developmental, test, or design responsibilities such as: Planner and Estimator who analyzed designs for production purposes; Instrument Maker or Model Maker who performed design or development work on devices fabricated. At this grade level, experience should include: using building information modeling software; working with CAD staff and utilizing AutoCAD programs, specifications and technical data; and maintaining drawings and constructions documents. NOTE: Experience must be fully documented on your resume and must include job title, duties, month and year start/end dates AND hours worked per week. ~OR~ EDUCATION: Have successfully completed two (2) full years of graduate education or a master's degree directly related to the work of the Engineering Technician position, such as engineering, construction, or industrial technology. Education cannot be credited without documentation. ~OR~ COMBINATION: Have Equivalent combinations of successfully completed graduate level education (beyond master's degree) and specialized experience, as described above, which meet the total experience requirements for this grade level. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The work requires long periods of sitting or standing in one position, climbing up ladders and crawling under buildings, visiting active demolition and construction sites, and sometimes being exposed to the elements. There is occasional exposure to high voltage, high noise levels, and the possibility of electrical shock, burns, cuts, and bruises. Physical agility and manual dexterity are essential in that the incumbent must be able to climb, lift, push, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and reach during normal project inspection procedures.
