DEPUTY ASSISTANT EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR FOR RISK REDUCTION

Summary The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) seeks a dynamic leader to serve as the Deputy Assistant Executive Director for Risk Reduction (EXRR). This senior executive will advance CPSC’s mission to protect the public from unreasonable risks of injury associated with consumer products by leading strategic initiatives in hazard detection, compliance support, and technological innovation. Duties This position is located in the Headquarters Office of the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Office of the Executive Director, Office of Risk Reduction (EXRR). In this role, the Deputy Assistant Executive Director (AED) for Risk Reduction will: Oversee injury data intake, integration, and dissemination to support risk analysis and hazard identification. Direct product safety assessments, regulated product testing, and hazard analyses in support of the Office of Compliance and Import Safety to ensure adherence to safety standards. Lead implementation of AI and ML technologies for hazard detection and mitigation; set strategic vision for adoption and workforce readiness. Promote advanced risk modeling tools, digital transformation, and cybersecurity initiatives. Provide leadership in regulatory and voluntary standards development, including international coordination. Represent EXRR in high-level meetings with government, industry, and global stakeholders. Establish and evaluate operational policies, allocate resources, and oversee performance management programs. Manage day-to-day operations through subordinate SES leaders, ensuring accountability and alignment with CPSC priorities. Requirements Conditions of employment U.S Citizenship Required. Expertise in consumer product safety, risk reduction, and compliance oversight. Experience implementing advanced technologies (AI/ML, data analytics) in safety programs. Proven ability to lead strategic initiatives and manage complex, multi-disciplinary operations. EXECUTIVE CORE QUALIFICATIONS (ECQs): In addition to the Technical Qualification Requirements listed above, all new entrants into the Senior Executive Service (SES) under a career appointment will be assessed for executive competency against the following five mandatory ECQs. ECQ 4: Leading People - This core qualification involves the demonstrated ability to lead and inspire a group toward meeting the organization’s vision, mission, and goals, and to drive a high-performance, high-accountability culture. This includes, when necessary, the ability to lead people through change and to hold individuals accountable. ECQ 5: Achieving Results - This core qualification involves the demonstrated ability to achieve both individual and organizational results, and to align results to stated goals from superiors. Note: If you are a member of the SES or have been certified through successful participation in an OPM approved SES Candidate Development Program (SESCDP), or have SES reinstatement eligibility, you do not need to respond to the ECQs. Instead, you should attach proof (e.g., SF-50, Certification by OPM’s SES Qualifications Review Board (QRB)) of your eligibility for noncompetitive appointment to the SES. A bachelor's, master's, or doctoral degree in chemistry, biology, or engineering is preferred. Education This position does not have a mandatory education requirement.
