The Position

Roche Sequencing Solutions, Inc. seeks a Software Engineer in its Pleasanton, California location.

Within a global biotechnology company, build sequencing products by designing, implementing, and testing software features and product infrastructure, while working with cloud technology, such as AWS, serverless computing, Java, distributed platform, and Spring Boot, among others. Research and analyze software requirements, architecture, and design specifications. Ensure software application specifications meet functional and design goals of software systems, subsystems, components, and services for sequencing products. Propose and evaluate software design options, analyze software application requirements, review code, and implement high-quality code and tests in areas of web APIs (Application Programming Interfaces), databases, cloud-components, and analysis pipeline execution. Create data flow diagrams and define external & internal interfaces for input, processing, and output of data. Build distributed software infrastructure to enable aggregation, storage, and computation of petabytes of genomic data, using Java application frameworks and big data processing frameworks such as Apache Spark, public cloud infrastructure, and managed cloud services (e.g AWS). Design and build software applications interfacing with other software applications/services using different interface designs/technologies, such as REST (Representational State Transfer) APIs and CLIs (command-line interfaces). Perform software test review, software test execution, and certification of software. Design unit, integration, and component test processes and procedures for software applications for sequencing products. Provide after-release software maintenance and support for identified issues by designing, implementing, and testing the software fixes. Write test cases, as applicable, using tools such as Java, Javascript, Typerscript, Python, Selenium Webdriver, Protractor, Cucumber, TestNG, and JUnit, to test the provided software fixes. Build, package, and distribute software artifacts for various aspects of product operations including, but not limited to: CI/CD (continuous integration and continuous delivery), software monitoring, software alerting, incident response, software infrastructure provisioning, and site reliability engineering. Telecommuting permitted up to 1 day per week.

Education and experience required: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or closely related field, plus four (4) years of experience as a Software Developer, Software Engineer, Java Developer, Technical Lead - Software or related role.

Special Requirements: Must have three (3) year of experience with each of the following:

• Database engines
• Cloud native development
• Interprocess communication & API development
• Software testing
• Distributed software design

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location for this position of California is $181,272 to $199,400 per year. Actual pay within the range will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
