Summary This position is located at the Seward Military Resort in Seward, Alaska. This is a seasonal position and the approximate dates of employment are 15 May - 15 September 2026. Duties Perform heavy physical labor requiring the frequent lifting and carrying of items and furniture weighing 80 to 100 pounds or more. Performs general maintenance of NAF facilities requiring use of heavy powered equipment and heavy tools. Breaks up concrete, mixes and pours concrete and asphalt. Resets nails, replaces hardware, relocate playgrounds, flowerbeds and portable structures. Advises facility director of potential safety hazards and identifies repairs required. Requirements Conditions of employment Direct Deposit and Social Security Card is required. Meet qualification/eligibility/background requirements for this position. A one-year probationary period may be required. Satisfactorily complete an employment verification (E-Verify) check. Satisfactory completion of pre-employment background checks in accordance with AR 215-3, Chapter 2. Incumbent may also be required to complete a Tier 1 background investigation for a Common Access Card for physical access to federally-controlled facilities. Applicant must be able to frequently lift and carry very heavy objects weighing in excess of 50 pounds. Requires frequent lifting and carrying of items weighing over 50 pounds, operating heavy powered mowers on grades or pushing wheelbarrow loads of cement, etc. Required to stand, walk, bend and kneel for lengthy periods of time. Works indoors and outdoors. May be exposed to adverse weather conditions when working outdoors. Exposed to drafts, noise, dust, and dirt. Possibility of bruises, muscle strains, cuts and scrapes. Required to follow safety procedures and use standard safety equipment such as gloves, ear protectors, and safety glasses and exercise proper handling of equipment to avoid serious injury in the work area. Some positions require applicants to be at least 18 years of age to be eligible for employment. Qualifications Resumes must be two pages (or less). Resumes should clearly demonstrate the applicant's relevant experience, skills, knowledge and abilities as they pertain to this position. A qualified candidate must possess the following: 1. Six (6) month of laboring experience required to include: a. Knowledge of the processes, which require remembering directions and/or sequences be, required (e.g., mixing cement). b. Knowledge and skill in the operation, control, and cleaning of heavy, power equipment (single-function power lawn mowers with one or more cutting decks and mechanical controls, chain saws, jackhammers). c. Knowledge to work safely with heavy tools (axes, picks, tampers, chain saws, etc). d. Skill in performing routine operator maintenance and adjusting the cutting height of blades of power mowers or in operating weight handling devises when moving heavy loads. 2. Must be able to work under general supervision, responding to initial oral or written instructions and completing assigned tasks. Education This job does not have an education qualification requirement. Additional information This is an open continuous announcement with an initial cut-off date of 01/07/2026. Allowances and Differentials This job falls under the Federal Wage Schedule (FWS) pay system. FWS employees earn overtime pay for working more than 8 hours in a day or more than 40 hours in a week -- whichever gives the employee more benefit. Regular full-time, regular part-time, and regularly scheduled flexible employees may receive Sunday premium pay for working on Sundays. Employees may also be eligible to receive extra pay if the majority of their scheduled hours falls after 3:00 PM. Non-foreign overseas allowances, cost of living (COLA), and differentials will not be paid, contingent upon eligibility.
