Summary
This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
About the Position: Performs as a journey level Power Plant Mechanic WB-5352-00 (TC-I) performing a combination of shop, plant and outside work at a hydroelectric power project.

Duties
Performs general powerhouse mechanical equipment maintenance.
Performs periodic and unscheduled maintenance/repair of equipment common to hydroelectric facilities including turbines, generators, governors, spillway and intake hoist equipment, pneumatic devices, HVAC equipment, etc.
Performs machine work of varying degrees of difficulty and exactness. Work may include shaping, turning, boring, grinding, milling, layout, and assembly of finished pieces into a final product meeting all tolerance and functional requirements.
Performs a variety of types of welding (oxygen-acetylene, shielded metal-arc, TIG, MIG), cutting (oxygen-acetylene, carbon arc), brazing, and soldering operations.
Performs other support duties such as installing and repairing piping systems where pipefitter and plumbers' skills are required in conformance with applicable standards.
Operates hand and power tools, jackhammers, pavement breakers, chipping hammers, vibrators and grinders.

Obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's license.
Pre-employment physical required.
Participation in the Medical Surveillance program is required.
Heavy lifting of up to 45lbs.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.
Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) POWER PLANT MECHANIC ~ without more than normal supervision. Experience performing the common tasks of a journeyman mechanic in diagnosing, repairing, adjusting, maintaining, and lubricating bearings, gears, engines, compressors, and hydraulic equipment. I have the ability to operate machine tools and equipment necessary to produce products within tolerances. I can perform general machinery repair, dismantling, assembling and installing main and auxiliary machinery or hydraulic equipment. I work under close supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
PHYSICAL EFFORT: The incumbent must have physical endurance to work for prolonged periods in cramped, poorly accessible sites when repairing or servicing installed equipment. Physical effort requires prolonged standing, walking, climbing, bending, stooping, kneeling, pushing, pulling, twisting, and lifting and carrying objects frequently weighing up to, and occasionally over, 45 pounds. Machinist work requires acute dexterity.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed in the machine shop, in the powerhouse and other project structures and outdoors. The employee is exposed to noise, heights, oils, greases, confined areas, dust, dirt, water, heat or cold. Also, may be exposed to odors, fumes and/or moving and energized equipment. Must wear appropriate safety equipment and protective clothing, and successfully complete and maintain all occupational health requirements.
